2021 Hurricanes Miscellaneous Thread

Interesting move by the NHL, it almost sort of makes sense I think.
It does seem to make sense, although it would perhaps be better if they would take a minute or two to explain the reasoning for this kind of thing before just straight up announcing it.

This doesn't shed much light on the 'why' but I found Brindy's comment interesting:

"Had we known that was the schedule we might have done something a little different," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "But honestly, we're just preparing for tonight and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow."

Speculate away on what Brindy is referring to, I haven't been able to come up with a good guess yet. Maybe would have preferred not to play Ned against Tampa tomorrow night?

Yeah, that’s my guess too, he’d have gone with Ned tonight and Reimer tomorrow. Ned is going to face them eventually, there is a back to back next Wednesday/Thursday in Tampa

That was my thought.. Ned Vs Chicago Reimer vs Tampa but as it is they don't want to swap goalies so we'll have what we'll have.

It might not be the worst thing in the world, if Dougie really is intent on re-signing here and the Canes and his agent are pretty close to a deal, to wait until free agency opens up to finalize or announce that deal. Certainly from the Canes perspective that would be tremendously helpful as it would allow us to protect another dman other than Dougie in the expansion draft:

Staal, Aho, Svech, Necas, Teravainen, Trocheck, (Nino or Foegele)

Slavin, Pesce, Bean

A goalie TBD

Seattle could have their pick of Foegele/Nino, Fast, Skjei, Gardiner or Fleury.

I suspect that they'll go ahead and leave Nino unprotected. His career pattern of feast followed by famine makes it less risky as he'll be due for a Bad Nino season next year. Having seen how quickly Bean has gotten comfortable at the NHL level, I'd personally do what it takes to protect him. Skjei's contract protects him without the Canes needing to blow a spot on the list for the guy ... probably the same for Gardiner. But yeah ... bottom line ... I really don't want to be losing Bean.

Any information of Fleury? Last night, Tripp said that Brindy wanted to give Bean more ice time for a stretch, but is anything else going on?

For me it was a level of play issue that justified Fleury coming out of the lineup to give Bean some additional games. Fleury wasn't terrible but its been far cry from the peak we saw last season. Bean has seized the latest opportunity so far. Hard to take him out, at least for now.

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of when Rod’s #17 went to the rafters...

Signing and hiring RBA is the best thing to happen to the Hurricane's organization ever. Anybody want to fight about it? Shake 'em off, & Let's GO!
