Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Prefer Hall, but Foligno works as a consolation prize. I don't see anyone else out there that interests me at the rumoured cost.

And it would kinda suck to not get one of the top guys available. Especially if all he costs is a late 1st in a weirdo rando draft. Gotta just pony up and get 'er done.

How would you guys rank your forward targets?

I've kind of gotten greedy. Hall or bust.

And I dunno, I just really can't see the appeal of Foligno. Not a bad player, but I think you're really going to be overpaying in terms of cap hit and acquisition cost based largely on past reputation and his tenure with that organization, moreso than the player he actually is today.

Giving up a 1st for Rakell smells like a mistake to me. Two good season turned into a reputation there somehow, while 3 thoroughly mediocre seasons to follow those up haven't done much to tarnish it. 40 goals in his last 171 games (19 goal pace) despite getting 1st line ice.

If that's your criteria, then 2 goal Hall and 9 goals in 51 playoff game aging Foligno probably aren't too appealing either.

Have to remember leafs are likely to finish top 4 overall. A 1st rounder this year is nowhere near the same value as a 1st rounder of theirs last year. Two different ball games. The difference between pick 27-30 and pick 14-17 is actually shockingly big.

A 1st round pick has the reputation of a "set value" and that's not really the case. It's a very small price for a team like Toronto if you can add a legit 2nd liner to a playoff run.

Foligno isn't, I've said as much recently. 3rd line guy imo. Hall I'm willing to take a chance on this season being a crazy outlier so far (2.3% shooting) because of how good he's been the rest of his career. Even in the two seasons between his MVP season and this tragedy, he was .91ppg,, a 75 point pace, not too too far off of JT's 84 point pace over those same 2 seasons with a bunch more talent around him.

imo, the two biggest needs for the Leafs right now are 3C and 1B. Those BJ goalies are of no interest, really. Foligno looks like he'll be wildly overpriced but he does fill a pretty big need. Would make for a gnarly bottom six.

Foligno's not a center.

Think our two biggest needs are a goalie better than Hutch and a top 6 forward who can play with Tavares Nylander with Hyman dropping down to drive his own line.

Correct. They straight up need to add a top six forward imo. If it isn't hall I'd be disappointed if they don't grab Foligno. He's a pretty damn ideal complementary player.
