The Motherfucking 2021 Playoffs Thread

Gallagher was terrible on the cup run. And Anderson scored a couple of big goals, but literally all does is get a breakaway rush chance once a game. They had a combined 12 points.

They committed a lot of money to two old wingers, who didn't do a whole lot during this run. The got the same production out of Byron, Armia and Lehkonen. There is no reason to sign 30 year old wingers like that for 7 years.

ok this I don't find funny at all.

This guy was injured the whole year and somehow miraculously comes back right on game 1 of the playoffs. His team cheats their way to the top with a full line of players they wouldn't have had otherwise. He plays for fans who will talk hockey today at lunch but forget all about it on Friday morning (ps, I've lived and worked in Tampa. There are some passionate fans of course but not an any type of scale), and he somehow finds a reason to take a shot at fans who live and bleed the sport and their Habs on the very FIRST question?

YUGE Asterisk.

And yes they are villains.

Anyhow, congrats to Habs and Habs fans for what will be a memorable time in your lives.

I do however, stand by my, and others', takes that this run will do a lot of harm to the organization for the next decade. My advice for the Canadien organization:

1- Start a strategic long term plan of convincing the public that the Habs can promote the French language in other ways than having a bilingual coach and GM. Come up with creative ways of doing this while you work on the public psyche. Fans don't insist on French players or captains, no reason the buck should stop at the head coach or the GM

2- Realize that this run was a special one, in a special circumstances. Do not give heavy money to Denault and look for ways to use this run to unload bad contracts in Galagher, Price etc. even if you have to take on short term bad contracts

3- Focus on player development. The way Kotkaniemi was handled is a recipe for a stunted development. One day on the throne, another in the press box.

Going into the playoffs, I thought he’d be one of the main reasons for them doing much. Maybe it was his line and the shutdown role - but I hardly noticed him.

So calling out a fanbase for almost rioting (a week after rioting just over making the cup) over winning a single game is bad form?

4 assaulted police officers and tear gas having to be used to disperse the crowd over winning to go down 3-1 isnt ridiculous?

It’s strange that for a team I don’t really like, the Habs limiting their pool to French coaches and GMs makes me so annoyed. You think I’d be pleased they’re limiting their options… I don’t see it changing though really.

Totally agree with you, the Canadiens have a lot of work to do. If the league goes back to the regular format and if this is principally the starting roster for next year, this team will not qualify for the playoffs.

At this point, I just hope a Canadian team wins the Stanley cup in whatever time I have left on this planet. I don't care which city they represent anymore...

I didn't want to be the one to say it. How should fans react when their team scores in OT to stave off elimination? They didn't riot.

And to completely disrespect Fleury out of the blue and act like he's a nobody and you don't even know his name?

The guy is a douche.

I would say yes it's ridiculous but calling out a fanbase based on a some goons who take advantage of an event, on the first question after a Stanley cup win is also ridiculous. Focus on your own team and fans. If he is specifically asked for it, he should speak against the crowd acting as they did but again shift focus to his own team and fans. I just didn't find it too classy and I'd like to think the Stanley cup and privilege of winning it should dictate a more classy celebration.

It was odd of him to come out swinging like this after having just lifted the Stanley Cup.

Thanks. Although I think we all know that congrats aren't in order.

What I will say though is, I'm watch hockey to be entertained. I get entertainment out of my team winning, especially in the playoffs. Whether or not they were objectively entertaining games to anybody other than Hab fans and Lightning fans doesn't really matter to me.

We've had 28 years of more or less mediocrity... So I'm not sure how much this actually harmed our future. Since I really don't know if losing in the first round would have made a difference. So I was entertained for a month or so... It hurts now but I suppose I'm happy about that.

Almost rioting?
And didn't the "riot" consist of a handful of fans flipping a car and getting gassed? Stupid yes... A riot? Not so much.

eh. I like the players to show some personality.
