Crosby and Aaron Rodgers Test Positive for Covid

It’s also weird how highly educated/ qualified people in one field seem to think their authority extends to other areas. It’s crazy. Maybe they are just raging know it all’s in their own field. But in this day and age, with the amount of dedication and experience it takes to become an expert in one thing… two is impossible.
Steve Jobs was good at computers and convinced himself that he knew more than doctors when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Instead of sciencey methods like chemotherapy and radiation he opted instead for herbal and homeopathic "remedies".

He's dead now, by the way.

Its ironic that the "critical thinkers" are so certain about their position. They are the same as the bad twitter hockey nerds.

Can't trust people that "know" they are right.
Exactly. The very essence of critical thinking is that you don't entrench yourself into a position but rather you keep an open mind. These people aren't critical thinkers, they are just critical of thinking.

It’s often a sign of a comfortable life and entitlement.
Religious people have that same sense of smugness and these are the people who continually get elected in the US. In fact, you pretty much HAVE to be a "person of faith" to hold high office there. I would rather have a person of doubt, someone who can admit that he or she doesn't have all the answers but is willing to consider different options. They don't need to be an atheist, but it would be helpful if they were the type of person who's religious beliefs could be summed up by "I dunno. Maybe god exists or maybe not but either way faith is no way to govern. Hope is not a plan."

My own personal theory has always been that Obama is actually an atheist. But that he realized early in his political career that he’d never get anywhere if he didn’t pantomime religiosity and also take advantage of the connections he could make through it. So he joined that black church in Chicago.

Even in Canada, where the vast majority of the population doesn’t like any ostentatious religious displays by their politicians, and are turned off by zealots like Scheer, I’m not sure how far and high up you could possibly get in politics if you were open and clear with the public about following no religion, and not believing in any deity.

You have to be on the right side in the US to be a politician. Obama is probably actually in the lower right quadrant, and he might even admit it now.

Every conservative politician in the US is (or is pretending to be) upper right quadrant. And people eat up this falsely self-assured bullshit. It's why Trump is a political star, despite his many failings as a human being. He's among the most outwardly self-confident Americans of all time. Televangelists get rich for the same reason.

Those eastern euro Danes have been pretending to be Scandinavian for years.

Well, Kyiv was founded by Vikings after all.

Those bastards travelled everywhere.

Edit: I should correct myself. They founded KyivanRus, and used Kyiv (or whatever settlement was there) as the capital. I’d guess they burnt down/sacked its predecessor, or at least looted it.

Still. Vikings.

is that true?

is that true?
He eventually had some surgery when it was too late to matter. But yeah he convinced himself that he was different and that he could do better pursuing alternative cures. He had the less aggressive kind of pancreatic cancer and it was caught early so he had a real chance for success at the outset, but he wasted valuable time by going the crunchy granola route and the cancer metastasized. The surgery he eventually had, a partial pancreas transplant, has only about a 25% success rate at the best of times, and he was too far gone by then.

Hubris.

In the US the President (assuming he is always male) cannot even be a bachelor like Pierre Trudeau when he was first elected. He has to be a "family man" and espouse "family values" so he has to be married and have kids. Reagan got away with being divorced but a woman would never be allowed to skate on that one, let alone be unmarried.

If Justin came out tomorrow and declared himself an atheist it wouldn't change one vote. The people that would care about that already don't vote for him.

Shit, Trump got away with divorce, spousal rape, basically ordering Melania out of a catalogue, etc.

"family values" only matters to the religious when it suits them. Hypocrites, the lot of them.
there is no longer any ideological consistency in pretty much any of the positions espoused by the fascist party of america.

Oh, there is consistency at the core: racial animus. Nothing motivates them more than immigration and fear/loathing of BLM. Nothing, including abortion. The GOP’s pillar is white identity/grievance/glorification (which requires galactic levels of Magical Thinking.)

They're hardcore about everything and they have no filter. It's almost like they're nostalgic for the autocratic systems of government from which their parents fled all those years ago.

My brother's inlaws in Toronto are from Denmark and they're staunch supporters of Ford.
Da fuq

That's some American education level geography there.
