Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

He’s a weird one cause that was a horrible wrist injury that is likely the reason he was nothing like he is now for two years.

If I were another team, I would view him as a top six forward and take the risk and pay him that market value for their team. We just don’t have that cap space and need

Saad 632gms, 16:51, 24gl/48pt pace (plyff: 91gms, 17:23, 23gl/46pt, 2 cups)
Palmieri 612gms, 15:50, 25gl/48pt pace (plyff: 57gms, 13:33, 22gl/35pt)
Hyman 345gms, 17:37, 21gl/44pt pace (plyff: 32gms, 19:27, 13gl/33pt)
Coleman 301gms, 15:40, 19gl/35pt pace (plyff: 53gms, 16:54, 16gl/40pt, 2 cups, gritzky)
Mikheyev 144gms, 14:57, 20gl/40pt pace (plyff: 12gms, 14:14, 0gl/0pt)

Well yeah Saad and Palmieri had great years earlier in their career. Mik is a defence first pk specialist. Maybe not quite the Coleman grit boost but a bigger boost than a more dime a dozen one dimensional winger. Palmieri and Saad showed signs of decline before the contracts were signed with the counting stats too + injury prone. Not very good contract years. And of course older. Mik is the youngest on that list by a good amount. Paying a guy 5m till 35-36 is very different than 32-33.

so basically, they are all wingers?

And Mik is the only one with 20 goals in his contract year! With sexy intangibles that GMs love.

(Also the purpose was the compare to the summer of 2021. Going back too far in a different economic environment doesn't make sense - no one was stylistically and numerically similar to Mik last year so these will have to do)

We shall see. I'd be stunned if he gets anywhere in the 3s. But that would be cool because the leafs should be all over that.
if he has a good playoff run it will juice his value a bit. but I don't see him getting a Saad or Coleman level contract. I've been wrong before though. Someone will definitely overpay and I will be glad we did not match, is what I predict.

Shorter longevity but younger with more apparent upside and better all around game (i.e. if teams think he's a 20 goal, 45 point pk/defensive specialist at 28 years old, that's gonna cost you). I'm thinking like a typical NHL executive, not as Presto.
Plus he's a Leaf. Rival GMs are happy to overpay if it means swiping a guy from us.

Harry Sateri was just the most silly example of it. They likely think we know something they don't (which we often do most likely), but then that extra joy of taking a guy away from us makes the whole notion of it fucking irresistible.

Need to look at the age of those players when their contract expires. Mik is younger. 4 years and his contract expires at 32. Coleman is already 31. 4.5-5.5x4 is easily possible imo. Otherwise if it's in the 3s it's a no brainer for Dube.

I think they might move kerf to re-sign mikky.
Muzz is gone, and Kerf will be an easy casualty if needed to sign Mikky and Engvall to term deals (3+ years).

They're not letting those two guys go. They know how crazy integral they are to the success of the bottom six.

I mean they're not paying mikky anything close to $5m tho.

They probably have to move Kerfoot regardless. And you are signing Mikky at the expense of long term deals for Sandin/Lilly. Doesn’t make sense.

Muzz and Kerf are over $9M combined. They can get away with Mikky and Engvall on term deals for something like $5.5M I bet. Then you use the balance for Lilly. And I'm sure there's still room for Sandin to get $3M by cutting some fat.

Let's not forget that one way or the other, Dubie is going to free up Mrazek's shitty $3.8m albatross too.

No way. Sign them nice and long now like we did with Rielly and Kadri.

Muzz is done. I don't know what you're even talking about waiting.

He’s just not important enough to take away money from key players IMO. mikky is replaceacable.

they have to move Mrazek and his and Jacks $5.4 mill to fix the goaltending, which may cost more.

they have to keep/replace Engvall, Mikheyev and Kase for about what they make now. Thats where Robertson comes in.

then you move Kerfoot to sign Sandin and Lilly.

Rielly already took the cap raise and Kessel money.

moving Muzzin would give you flexibility to upgrade.
