Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I spent 9 days once. It was at least 3 too long. Ended up golfing, grand canyon, hoover dam etc but after you've done that all? Nothing left but slots, tables and escorts.
Yeah I did a trip where I spent a couple of days in Vegas then sandwiched in a few days to drive to the Grand Canyon. But the 2 days at the end back in Vegas were torture. It's cheaper to get a 4 day Sun-Wed package than a 3 day Fri-Sun package but all the headliner shows are on Fridays and Saturdays. The entertainment options on the other 5 nights of the week are garbage. Dollar margaritas are nice for a while but by the third day you realize that you're in an off brand version of hell.

It's a different "feel" in Vegas today. The "bean-counters" have taken over. Before, the "other stuff" like food & entertainment were essentially subsidized by the gambling revenue (cheap food & cheap entertainment/comps/etc.,). I mean, everyone was ALWAYS viewed as a 'mark'/'sucker' but at least one felt treated like they (individual) were special back in the day (and I don't mean as far back as the Sinatra days but as late as the 2000s). Today, you're being "nickel & dimed" to death on everything. If they could charge a 'resort fee' for the oxygen in the casino, they would...

One might as well gamble (if that's your thing) in the numerous casinos all throughout North America.

Ellis Island karaoke another great choice. Cheap drinks and surprisingly talented people

this is the way.

there was some other off strip bar that we just pounded vegas bomb shots all day. drinking around the pool at the hotel nearly cleaned my wallet right out.

Why anyone would want to sign there is still beyond me. Vegas is fun and all but it gets old quickly too.

Great entertainment on days off, great winter weather. Yeah, if you're a veteran with a wife ande 4 kids and you're looking for somewhere to live all season it's not a great market. If you're 26, want to spend the summers at home and just want a condo and shit to do on your days off, it's a great market. Fights, concerts, stand up, shows, etc. P4P entertainment capital of the world.

Meh. Been there too many times. It gets old.

To each their own

Drinking your face off and throwing money away at the casino gets old. Seeing fights/concerts/shows/etc for the 3.5 months of the year that you're actually "home" wouldn't. These guys are on the road for 3.5 months of the year, and in their off season home training for 4.5-5 months of the year.

Anywhere gets old when you've spent enough time there, but I imagine the novelty of a 25C day off in February being spent at a Vegas pool party wears off a little slower than say, hitting up West Edmonton Mall on a double day date with Connor.

Yeah I get it. I just like my setup. No draw for me really. I prefer Monaco.

At least 2 of 4 series should be pretty good ones to watch. Think I’ll probably watch most the Florida and Alberta games. There should be plenty of fireworks in those.

I’m so bored with the rest. If I had to feign interest, I’d want to watch the Avs put on a show or McDavid do his thing. But really don’t care. Wake me up when it’s over now.

Yeah, this is me at this point.

Between a decade of no playoffs and several more years of first round exits, I’m sick to death of playoff hockey that doesn’t include the only team I’m emotionally invested in.

Once the Leafs are out, I usually turn it off the rest of the way. At most, I might start watching again in a Cup final elimination game, if even that.

Yep. First time I was in Vegas was early 1992 and it was still a lot like the old Vegas then and a lot of the old hotels like the Sands and the Aladdin were still around. The newest hotel at the time was the Mirage. The MGM was under construction and it was a vacant lot where the New York New York is now. Back then, it was not yet a family friendly destination (although the Excalibur was there or at least under construction - I stayed across the street at the old Tropicana) The city ran on gambling, not roller coasters and celebrity chef restaurants. There wasn't much to do there that any kid or family would be interested in (aside from Circus Circus, I suppose) but you could get a 16 oz. prime rib dinner for $2.99 and you could drink your face off in any casino for free as long as you were putting coins into a slot machine. Nowadays all the casinos are owned by big corporations and the business model is that every individual part of the casino has to make its own money. So the days of the casino takings being used to offset the losses incurred by the coffee shop or the lounge are over. And because families are there for things other than gambling, everything costs money now. Yes, you can still get a cheap flight, a cheap rental car and a cheap room, because there are thousands of hotel rooms in Vegas (more rooms just on the corner of Tropicana Avenue and the Strip than in the entire city of San Francisco) but apart from that they nail you for everything.
