Leafs acquire Matt Murray

Matt Murray was good at one point. Frederick Andersen went from .909 to .895 to 922. Murray has gone .893 to .906 to ???

Murray might be cooked, but Freddie Andersen was likely cooked too, until he wasn't, after a change of scenery.

Yeah, I wouldn't want Matt Murray to be a 40+ start goalie for my team, but it might not end up as bad as you are thinking. I could see Murray going .910-.915, which coupled with the Leafs offense is plenty good enough.

He could be good, but he's also risky for both (a) performance and (b) health issues. That makes him double risky, on top of regular goalie voodoo.

Just gotta see who the other goalie is, maybe he has a trade up his sleeve.

Nobody here has been worse at goaltender eval than axl so On that basis given the concerns he has with Murray I think this is a win.

Can a retention deal still take place with a team like Arizona? Trade kerfoot for something and retention? Can it still happen?

How much would Reimer cost in a trade? He's cheap and his non-fancy #s seem like they've been steadily good over a long period of time.

The real issue here is that after seven years with current management they haven’t developed even a backup goalie, putting them in a spot to need to make this trade.

Also wild claim they're keeping Talbot and isles claim they're keeping Varlamov. Aka if you want them you're gonna need to tempt them bigly. Prolly why they opted for Murray.

It just doesn’t feel like strong asset management, especially the return for what is essentially a cap dump. A third and the seventh don’t do anything here and getting only 25 percent of Murray’s salary retained is a very tough look. Good on the Senators for getting out of it and this is another big win for them in what has been a strong offseason. But for Toronto, it’s extremely disappointing.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see Murray bounce back at all, assuming good health, especially behind Toronto’s system. But at this price, it feels way too expensive to find out for sure.

This seems fair.

Dubas not calling their bluffs may be the bigger mistake
