Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

“Leaf fans do tend to think their prospects are older than they are”

*jumps in to name Robertson*

… yes, exactly.

Yeah, I've never seen a fanbase get prospect fatigue as quick as Leaf fans do. If you're not a top 10 pick, even making the league at 21 yrs old is ahead of schedule. I feel like we've barely seen Robertson at the NHL level, and he's played the 31st most games of anyone from his draft class (while being one of the youngest players in the draft class). There's like 12-18 guys from his draft with full time NHL jobs and most of those guys are on shit teams. The only full timers on good teams are Kakko (2nd overall), Newhook (16th overall), and a few other top 25 picks (Byram, McMichael, Krebs, Boldy) who have been regulars for a half season or so.

They did it to Lilly, they're going to do it to Robertson as well. Wait until Knies isn't NHL ready at the end of this season (which is my expectation)

Seriously though, it's 1 part injury, 1 part him not being an immediate stud after 5 minutes in the NHL, and 1 part him being a Leaf prospect which requires prospect evaluators to undervalue him until he's a 30 goal scorer in the NHL at which point they will us everything we've ever said about him to explain why this was inevitable despite them only talking about why he'll never do it up until that point.

It's mostly that like Lilly he had unique circumstances that let him play in the AHL before most prospects are allowed to.

I don’t think “prospect fatigue” is really my issue with Robertson. I’m not really concerned at all with how long he’s taking, considering the dude isn’t even of legal drinking age yet in the Puritan States of America.

The fact that he suffers at least one major, catastrophic injury every year and that he ends up on his ass every time I’ve seen him get into a puck battle is what has me less than hopeful about his NHL potential.

And I’m not one to complain about a prospect’s size. With Mitch obviously it isn’t an issue. But Robertson plays a game where he wants to be a physical buzz saw out there, and I’m just not convinced he’s got the body to do that when he’s not mostly playing against teenagers.

Hope he proves me wrong of course.
