OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

So this new guy doesn't have the vaccine so.... How does this work? Even if he is willing to get it doesn't he have to wait 3 to 4 weeks between shots?

…and it appears that Atkins acquired him without even knowing whether or not he’ll be willing to get vaccinated:

"
We expected the 2022 MLB trade deadline to be one of the busiest in recent years, so it wasn't surprising that we had a bunch of big names moved Tuesday – most notably, of course, Juan Soto, who ended up with the Padres in a massive deal that we broke down here.

But just because we expected a lot of big names to be traded doesn't mean the names themselves were expected, and perhaps the most unexpected move ended up being the Blue Jays' decision to acquire Whit Merrifield from the Royals just under the 6 p.m. deadline.

It's surprising not just because Merrifield's name hadn't really been widely mentioned in trade rumors, but also because Merrifield famously couldn't travel to Toronto when the Royals played there a few weeks ago because he wasn't vaccinated against COVID-19. At the time, however, he did say "If what was standing between me and the playoffs was this vaccine, I would consider getting it," and presumably, the Blue Jays reached out to confirm he would get the shot. Otherwise, the trade makes little sense, because Merrifield is currently not allowed to cross the US-Canada border."

He said he wasn't going to comment...holy overreaction.

I'll wait til he telsl us he isn't getting vaxxed before I assume this is a Ron Wilson thing.

(Hint...I don't think so, I think this was a guy not wanting to get in any way political, let the player deal with that)

Even if he ends up getting vaccinated (assume he will), it seems like basic due diligence to know ahead of completing the trade and that response makes it seem like he didn't, that's all.

Yeah, seems like he wanted to dodge accountability questions, such as:

Did you know the players vax status before you traded for him?

...do you really believe that?
Do these guys seem like those kind of people?

I understand people don't like them and walk around with the knives out, I'm going to say their knives are sharper.

A team that has spent years being dispossessed and just generally fucked over because of the virus, they play games where parts of the other team can't play....and your(as in all of you, not hl in particular) first jump is right to "omglol they didn't know"

While it might be true, not the first jump I make.

I mean, it seems pretty straightforward.

If you have faith in Shatkins, you’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this move.

If you don’t have faith in them, you’re not, especially when Atkins gives an answer that gives no indication that he knows whether or not Merrifield will get vaccinated.

Either opinion is fine, and we’ll see how it plays out in the end.

I have zero posts about current Jays management so no idea why anyone would include this in a post to me.

It's just a weird answer. "It's been discussed and no comment" would've worked but this made it seem like he didn't know. So yeah, weird, IMO.
