OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Third wildcard would actually be the best. They’d play the winner of the Central in round 1 and winner of the West in round 2. Right now, in the first WC position, they’d play Tampa and then NYY.

So the Jays actually shouldn’t get too hot in August and Sept. Save it for the playoffs.

Houston is actually only 1/2 a game back of NYY, so it's not guaranteed the Yankees will be the #1 seed. Central Division winner isn't much different than any of the WC teams either. I think you still want WC1 to have home field for the wildcard round.

Yanks can't buy a win since ruining their locker room chemistry at the deadline #leavegreatenoughalone

5 game losing streak is delicious. If the Mariners can somehow maintain their recent mastery to send them winless into their Red Sox series, that would be awesome. I imagine facing the Red Sox will make them snap out of it, so best to get a couple more L's out of them here.

Yeah worship is different. I don't see you guys worshiping Shatkins or anything. Only deep, deep love, which I do have in my life.
Just to quickly comment on this, I don't love these guys at all. In the previous disagreement, all I was arguing was that the Blue Jays are a good team. And virtually everyone in baseball agrees! Except, perhaps, for those with a deep love for Alex Anthopoulos. Although I think even his mother would agree with that. And I quite like Alex myself.

Because this is so obvious, I make a couple of sarcastic comments and get accused of flipping out. Although maybe there was a bit of a disconnect, as Zeke mentioned some ppl thinking the Jays were "elite", which I never said. IMO, there are 2 elite teams - Yanks and Dodgers. Though you could argue the Mets and Astros are right there based on win-loss record.

I do love this team though. Even more fun to watch than the Bautista-Edwin-Josh teams.

Sorry I was just having fun with the great banter that this thread has (it's much better than groupthink!). It's not meant to be taken seriously. You're allowed to be a diehard fan.

You forget to mention they’re 10+years younger than those jays at the time? I loved that core group too but this core is so much more interesting because you know you’ll probably have them in their prime another 5+ years.

There is a lot to love about this team and where they’re headed. Future is big time bright.

this assumes ownership is prepared to pay market rates to keep their talent. time will tell but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

future would be bright if you knew that ownership was prepared to invest the resources required. I think you're more optimistic than me on this front.

cmon man they’ve been spending big money recently to improve the team. I think they’ve earned a bit of credit in that regard. I think Vlad is a lifer here. He gets whatever he wants.

If you have faith that theae guys will pay up for vlad and kirk and bo and alek, maybe. And as long as they stay healthy.

Because there's not quite as much age separation as you think otherwise.

Price 29 --------- Gausman 31
Stroman 24 --- Manoah 24
Dickey 40 ----- Berrios 28
Estrada 31 ----- Stripling 32
Buehrle 36 ------- Ryu 35
Hutchison 24 - Kikuchi 31

Osuna 20 -------- Romano 29

Hendriks 26 ---- Bass 34
Cecil 28 ----------- Mayza 30
Lowe 32 ---------- Phelps 35
Schultz 29 -------- Garcia 31
Tepera 28 ------- White 27
Hawkins 42 ----- Pop 25

Tulowotzki 30 ----- Springer 32
Donaldson 29 ----- Guerrero 23
Bautista 34 --------- Kirk 23
Encarnacion 32 -- Teoscar 29
Travis 24 ------------- Bichette 24
Smoak 28 ----------- Gurriel 28
Martin 32 ------------ Chapman 29
Revere 27 ------------ Jansen 27
Pillar 26 --------------- Biggio 27

Colabello 31 --------- Merrifield 33
Carrera 28 ------------ Tapia 28
Goins 27 --------------- Espinal 27
Navarro 31 ------------ Zimmer 39
Pompey 22 ------------ Moreno 22

And remember, they inherited Vlad (and didnt hire the guys who landed Kirk and Moreno for them for peanuts).

I think part of the frustration is that they have a foundation set to be a top tier team but management seems unwilling to get rid of the assets that can take them to the next level? There seems to be that lack of killer instinct from them compared to prior management?

Even if you gobble the fuck out of Shatkins cock, I think you have to agree that this is a fair criticism. Dubas has plenty of weaknesses as well! Everyone does! It's okay to acknowledge them!

Besides Masai all our sports teams have been run by dummies.

Dubas is a bum. Atkins is a bum. Whoever has been running TFC last couple seasons bum.

When saying they should trade all the prospects, don't forget that thankfully they did not trade Vlad, Bo, Manoah or Kirk.
Well depends on timing. If trading those guys gives a Donaldson Bautista led team a real short at the WS, then I'd trade anyone (maybe Vlad is exempted).

My question is, Is now the time?

Either way I think we should have gotten another arm.

Point is that no team, other than the San Diego Padres, gave up "all the prospects". The Mariners gave up a high-end prospect plus 3 decent ones for Castillo, so certainly the Jays could have tried to get him if you wanted to give up Moreno ++. Yankees gave up some good prospects for Montas, but still:

Yankees didn't trade any of their top 4, Volpe, Dominguez, Peraza, Wells. (Arguably traded #5 depending how much you value Waldichuk vs. Sweeney)
Dodgers didn't trade any of their top 5, Miguel Vargas, Cartaya, Busch, Pages, Miller.
Astros didn't trade any of their top 5 either. (not that they have great options)
Mets barely did anything at the deadline.

You can definitely argue the Jays should have made more of a splash. I'm just not sure how good Montas is outside of Oakland Coliseum (not knocking him, I do think he's a good pitcher, but his away numbers are clearly worse). Nobody ended up trading for Carlos Rodon or Willson Contreras, ostensibly because the prices were too much. And the price for Castillo was very high.

I like our acquisitions quite a bit, though they really should have traded for at least 1 high-impact RP.
