OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Also agree with M.E.'s assessment that we couldn't match the price for Soto without digging into our MLB roster, and it would have been a questionable move if you have to pay him half a billion dollars on top of it. Going all-in on Ohtani would have been the play, but the Angels smartly decided not to trade him and pulled him off the market.

I think part of the frustration is that they have a foundation set to be a top tier team but management seems unwilling to get rid of the assets that can take them to the next level? There seems to be that lack of killer instinct from them compared to prior management?

Even if you gobble the fuck out of Shatkins cock, I think you have to agree that this is a fair criticism. Dubas has plenty of weaknesses as well! Everyone does! It's okay to acknowledge them!
The voice of reason. (Since circa 2020).

it's not the not trading prospects, it's the not spending the money (which they said they had plenty of at the end of the offseason, but chose not to spend it - so much so that some people bought the line that they were "saving payroll for the deadline").

I don't really disagree with that too much. They do have the #9 team payroll but at $174m, they could easily do $200. They do need to be careful when adding salary for future seasons though, because guys like Vlad and Bo are going to get expensive soon.

that's why spending it now (and yesterday) when vlad and bo are still cheap and guys like springer and gausman are still good was so important.

in a couple years when vlad and bo aren't cheap and guys like springer and gausman aren't as good as their salary then its much much harder for us to become a legit title favorite.

and our payroll this year is only ~$165m.

Bullshitting about to degree which Rogers is allowing them to spend is a proud front office tradition in Toronto

it's pretty funny that the jays are more wont to push a starter deep when he's sucking than when he's cruising.

Kikuchi goes 84 pitches pitching like crap after Gausman pulled on 84 pitches while dominating, and jays bring in a crappy reliever for kikuchi because well they need the good ones even when the starters pitch well.

American League - Innings Pitched

1. Framber Valdez (HOU) 135.0
2. Alek Manoah (TOR) - 132.0
3. Gerrit Cole (NYY) - 131.1

17. Jose Berrios (TOR) - 118.0
18. Kevin Gausman (TOR) - 117.2

(I do agree they should ride Gausman a little more, though)

That just speaks to how many awesome starts Manoah has had (I think all but one?), that his 6 IP or so each time has him at the top of the league.
