Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Can't think of a deal in recent Leaf history that was immediately universally hated as much as the Murray trade.

Bad trade, bad contract, bad goalie...but it's still factually incorrect to say his contract is "equally bad" as Jack Campbell's.
Double retention was the only way I would have been fine with it. And I was probably the least pessimistic out of all of us about him as a goalie. An obvious blunder from day 1.

For the intents and purposes of playing the position? Hell ya. Probably worse.

For cap reasons? Ya you can throw him to the curb easier. Should have never dragged him in from the curb.

It may very well turn out to be a bad pickup. Absolutely fair to question it. But he has been good in the past, and he was quite good last year until he got hurt. So to decide he's a "bust" after playing 1 game is idiotic.

If he ends up being even a league average starter, the contract isn't a problem either.

Live in your bubble mate

It's not "one game". No matter how you keep trying to slice that.

O really. I guess the game log needs to be updated.

Oh yeah, the preseason. I guess since we can form a Strong!! Opinion!!!! based on tiny sample sizes now (thanks, Trump) we can declare that when Matt Murray comes back he will set the NHL record with the greatest save percentage of all time.

If you're arguing that Matt Murray is a worse goaltender than Jack Campbell, I'm not going to disagree with you, even with Campbell's brutal start. Murray's been mediocre-to-horrific for four out of his past five seasons.

And as much as Campbell has his own injury issues, Murray's on an entirely different level there.

Agreed on both those points.

Murray's contract isn't as bad as Campbell's and the Leafs never should have acquired Murray in the first place.

Getting both goalies on short term deals was better than giving Jack 5 years

29th or whatever in scoring has been more of an issue this year, IMO.

Still think that gets closer to what it was last year and this is a bit of an overreaction but time will tell.

They are not getting that arena. What spin with Gary use when it's not approved?

Even if they do get it, the excuse we’ve heard for the Coyotes over and over again is that if they could just get a downtown arena, all their problems would be solved.

Wouldn’t this just be another arena out in the burbs?

Yep. it's far out in the burbs. Location is stupid.
They are now depending on people who don't give a shit about hockey voting yes on taxpayer $. I can't see a yes happening.

This will finally be the final nail if there's a no vote. They have to move.

I'm probably alone in this but I sorta get why the NHL wants Phoenix to work as a market. It's a bigger TV market than a lot of places they already have teams in (Tampa, Seattle, Miami, Minneapolis, Denver, St Louis, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Nashville, Columbus) and a big snowbird location. It should in theory be workable. Don't think being a shit team almost their whole history has really helped.

The college rink thing is pretty damn embarrassing though.
