The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I feel like you and I have been on the Treliving isnt so bad train since it left the station (that said, who the hell knows, i know i dont pay attention to what i say, damn sure know no one else does) The idea that he was in the chia, bergy, rape mayor tier was absurd. He's not a super nerd with no experience ( though the notion that gm with mistakes>gm who hasnt made mistakes yet is better seems silly to me) Assuming Nill wasnt an option i only think i like Botterill, and Shero more as far as experienced dudes go, and it's marginal.
Yeah minimal differences between a lot of these guys. This guy isn't a stubborn old boomer and is more likely to be a collaborator and open to new ideas which I very very much prefer even over a guy like Doug Armstrong, for example. There's little to love about this decision (we were never going to love it.. At least I wasn't, even if it was an inexperienced, potentially little bitch nerd Tulsky) but I am a bit stunned to see people hating it so much.

It is kinda funny to see Treliving referenced as another retread, but Dubas as some unicorn when they are the same. Both had one GM job. Both didn't get it done. Both were walked to the end of their contracts, but liked enough that they had the ability to return or walk away for other jobs.

Treliving has been a AGM/GM for 20 years now.…it’s not like he’s some new kid on the block.

Tbh I thought a forum that valued nerdies as much as we do would be a little less miserable about this move.

I dont know about you, I wasn’t particularly enthused with the article you posted of Treliving discussing analytics. He sounded pretty dumb on the topic, like his crew had to create a single ELI5 metric for him to keep up.

Didn’t fill me with any excitement anyway.

As long as he leans on his department properly and utilizes the data the provide I could care less about his level of knowledge on the topic

And of course hires a coach who will actually listen to them

Leafs probably never asked to speak with Nill or Armstrong because they are employed and that might be disrespectful to their teams. That's how Leafs think.
Vegas is cutthroat and about to lift the cup

Do you think Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, or Don Mother fuckign Sweeney know anything about nerdies? No. The GM does not have to be qualified to use a spreadsheet.. In fact, that's probably not what would make a successful GM. John Chayka is decent proof of that. He just has to let his nerds do their work and most importantly, LISTEN to them. Kyle visibly stopped doing the latter near the end.

So the media has been right for the past several weeks? Are we admitting that now and don't think our FO is some fortress?

One of Shanahan’s qualifications for the new GM was probably a commitment to obey the spirit of the salary cap rules.

No unethical LTIR shenanigans like Vegas or Tampa. His buddy Gary wouldn’t like it!

“Nerdies” can suck my cock.

Aren’t we all sick already of jerking off to teams with good regular “nerdies” that can’t do a fucking thing in the playoffs?

That’s exactly the kind of team this idiot delivered in Calgary for the better part of a decade. So if that’s what you’re into, enjoy another helping of it I guess.

You don't win cups without good nerdies. Impossible.

And Gary rewards the Leafs by shitting on them non-stop and obsessing over a team that makes no money and has no arena.

@LeafGm if you don't value nerdies, what do you value? Who's a good GM to you? Anyone that was available? Anyone in the league currently?

It’s not that I don’t place any value in analytics.

But when your good “nerdies” as a GM are paired with consistent abject failure in the playoffs over a long period of time, they don’t buy you any credit from me.

I also think it’s insane to paint this guy as an analytics GM considering all the horrific Burke/Nonis-esque UFA contracts he’s handed out to shitty marginal vets.

As for who I would’ve wanted, either Tulsky or Nill would’ve been my preference.
