There is more than one way to win a Cup. Sid & Geno were getting their ass kicked in the first round those years. Our franchise player was in net. It counts.
If the team is good enough to reach the finals, and we were good enough for that, you should all in for it. End result would not have been worse.

I agree, hence why we needed to do something bold to bolster our forward group. Why do you think we wouldn't have been able to upgrade our forward groups by selling all our picks and prospects? Are you really that devoid of imagination?

1) I disagree that it's a necessity. Scoring depth can compensate for lack of elite scoring.
2) So you would have taken a team with MVP goalie, 35-40 goal scorer, Norris winning D, a team that was winning conferences and divisions and tore it down because there wasn't an elite forward on the roster?
