One or two excuses & probably quite limited! The "ah fuck, here we go again" playoff thread

Honestly don't know how to feel about Boston, but here's both takes:

Pessimists Take:
- 0-4 in the regular season is not good
- Boston has the best and 2nd best goalie in the series. So even running Swayman out of the building just puts last year's Vezina winner in net.
- Keefe could be out coached by a cabbage.
- Their blueline is a fair bit better than ours, if we ran our best 6 out there. Keefe's preferred deployment is way, way worse than Boston's 6.
- We haven't beaten Boston in a playoff series since our games were played in the Roman Coliseum or some shit

Optimists Take:
- It's starting to get nice outside, so there's that.
- Seriously though, Boston was thoroughly mediocre in the nerdies this year (15th in xG, Florida was 5th fwiw)
- Since March 1st, they're on a 98 point pace
- Their defensive results are good (4th in GA/60) but that's most goaltending (14th in xGA)
- Our PK is dogshit, but their PP is mediocre so maybe we'll be okay
- Our PP looks back on track and their PK is good but just good, but again mostly goaltending (7th in GA/60, 13th in xGA....actually worse than ours in xG)
- Zacha-Coyle-Geekie isn't quite the same calibre of centres they were rolling out there against us last time we ran into them in the playoffs.

There's a legit possibility that we get out coached and goalied into a 1st round loss here, but the Leafs are better than the Bruins despite the seeding and regular season points total. My bet is on us getting the monkey off of our backs, Leafs in 6.

This is the first time in a while the Leafs have had a clear skill advantage.

So this year, it's legitimately a pure test of their will.

The most optimistic thing for me is that neither of their goalies has been any good in the playoffs (Swayman 8gms, .901 -- Ullmark 8gms, .888) and without goaltending that team ain't much.

Then again, no team makes goalies look better in the playoffs than our leafs.

(p.s. Leafs goalies in the playoffs - Samsonov 17gms, .902 - Woll 4gms, .915 - Jones 63gms, .917 - Murray 51gms, .921).

Pretty much this. Leafers in six.

Jerks. Making me cheer for leafs again. Ugh.

The Bruins don't need to win nerdies, they need to win actual playoff games. And they have proven through the last few years that they know how to win playoff games. If nothing else, they at least know how to win playoff games against the Leafs.

Bruins haven't made it out of the first round last 2 playoffs.

Haven't made it past the 2nd round last 4 playoffs.

Boston in 5

Leafs deadline adds reeks of what they think they need to beat the Bruins.

Problem is, the adds suck, and this isnt what the Bruins are.

Keefe will overplay bums, sit Robertson and Lilly for Gregor and Lybushkin

Bruins goalies are better.
