Guentzel's Rights Traded to Tampa Bay

I really try to avoid being a hater, but the idiots in the Canes' Facebook going apopolyptic over this have once again demonstrated how little they understand about the game, roster construction, and cap management. It allows me to appreciate this board even more.
You mean all the ones that are on hold awaiting their Rep so they cancel their season tickets…that bunch is insufferable.

You’re a brave man, venturing into that cesspool.

This Guentzel drama will make him "boo worthy". Fans are going to light into him at his next PNC appearance.

Look. He was a rental and they wedged a 3rd out of it. Fine. The rest is noise. And as much as randos on the internet are making out like Carolina paid a fortune for the rental, we all know they didn't. Bunting hated it here and everybody here hated him, and they gave up a bunch of nothing prospects. Big whoop. That's the business of rentals.

If Guentzel was the answer they’d have gotten past the Rangers. I don’t think you wreck you salary structure for him. And please no Stamkos.

Stamkos is gonna score 35-40 goals for somebody. The issue will be how many years he requires to sign a new deal. From what I've heard, that was an issue for Tampa.

And FWIW, I agree on Guentzel. I'd love to have him on the roster but for a max term deal and not if it blows your salary structure out of the water. One or the other you could live with, but sounds like he held out for both. He got it, pretty much ... so, good for him ... but he's moving back into the same situation he left in Pittsburgh. A team so top heavy that they just don't have any depth at all.

NHL Network guys have Stammer coming in around 6 x $6m...

ESPN now reporting it’s a seven year deal in Tampa for Guentzel with full contract details released when the UFA period officially opens.
CapsFriendly says it’s 9x7. So the Canes’ alleged 8x8 would’ve been worth 1m more but he’s e also would’ve lost that and a bit more in state income tax. And he gets another year after to make some more cash. And he gets to play for a team that’s past its prime and either headed for a tear down or several years of mediocrity. So that should be fun.

That would be moronic. He'd be 40 freaking years old at the end of that term, and is likely have maybe 2 good years left. Then again, it's NHL Network people, so ...
Moronic yes, but you know he will have 8-10 teams chasing him today and driving up the price.

The state incime Tax was a huge factor for Guentzel. He gets $53 million structured as a signing bonus, which is a lump sum payment. His salary is $1 million for all but 1 year. This is from LeBrun.
