OT: Movies/TV Shows

Apparently Gene Hackman was a real asshole to a lot of people. But as an actor he was definitely a Hall of Famer. This thread reminding me it's been way too long since I watched the Royal Tanenbaums, will definitely have to fix that this week.

Him and Wes Anderson notoriously fought like cats and dogs on set, and Hackman was miserable the whole shoot…..which is batshit to me, cause you’d never in a million years guess that from his performance. He comes across like someone having the time of their life in that role, almost with a jazz like freedom to go anywhere with his performance……but ironically he was actually a huge prick on set and talked down to Wes the whole time, because he felt he was too precise with his framing etc…

Guess he was constantly belittling him and hurling insults at him, called him a “c*nt”…..Bill Murray would even come in on his days off from shooting so he could be a go between Gene & Wes and kinda shield Anderson from his insults, lol.

He was also an asshole to Angelica Huston if memory serves, (I think they discuss a lot of this in the Criterion Collections making of doc)…..and in a scene where she is walking down the street with him and kinda swats him, she actually hauled off and really smacked him pretty hard, cuffed his ear etc…..and that’s the take Wes left in the movie, 😆.

There's a great story about how much he thought Hoosiers was a disaster and hated the director. There's a scene I believe he's embracing Dennis Hopper where he whispered to him how the shit film was the end of their careers and Hopper was laughing and it made the cut.

Absolute Power, Heist and Runaway Jury are all above average as well. Really, he had very few duds on his resume, and it is a shame his last film is that Mooseport thing
Yes! I almost forgot about Heist. Fantastic David Mamet film with all the usual twists and turns. All filmed in Montreal, too.

They noted how Betsy was found in the bathroom along with a space heater and pills -- and it looked like she had been dead for a while. Her body was in a state of decomposition, with facial bloating and mummification in her hands and feet.

What's more, the heater was right next to her corpse, and the pills were scattered nearby. Police say Gene was found in a separate room.

Ugh. Not good.
