New Canadian Politics Thread

Hearing that the PP and Fordnation camps don’t like each other much.

Ontario conservatives and Alberta conservatives usually view each other as rivals, not allies. They're 2 different parties who have set aside their differences to scrap for power with each other instead of settling for perennial Liberal rule.

There are not enough quislings in Canada to make appearing close to trump a positive.

If that keeps PP out of office than trump may have (gasp) done a good thing
The only place where simping for Trump isn't a liability is in Alberta. So if Pee-Pee wants to run against Smith to see which one of them can tickle Trump's taint better, then great. But neither one of them would have a prayer of winning a federal election with such a strategy.

Not a surprise. Everyone in Canadian politics is well aware of the quirk in Ontario politics, where it’s exponentially harder for a Federal Conservative Party to win Ontario when their provincial cousins are in power here.

So Dougie fucked PP hard by making sure to call a snap Ontario election almost immediately before a likely federal election & refreshing his mandate.

Being the most prominent Conservative going hard after Trump also serves to highlight Poilievre’s own muted and chickenshit response. And then on top of all that, Ford was on US TV yesterday singing Carney’s praises as the smartest economic manager around.

If they ran a poll today with PP vs Dofo as future leader of the Cons, Dofo comes out on top

Honestly, I think most of Doug’s actions, especially lately, are being done with a view towards raising and improving his profile nationally, taking over as the Federal Conservative leader and becoming the Prime Minister.

PP winning a majority, or even managing to form government at all, would directly harm that goal. Whereas the Liberals winning an unstable minority, PP getting turfed and another federal election being called 2-3 years down the line would be perfect for him.

Nail on head.
