No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

If we are going with Domi in the middle, I would love to see Laughton play on 2LW to put Holmberg down to 4C.

Get Laughton going.. and maybe he won't wiff on the chances that Holmberg does.

Holmberg would create a 4th line with some potential.... even with Jarny.

Speaking of Tavares captaincy, Mirtle said on a podcast that the Leafs had to talk to him about not spending any time with the team off ice.

He was always a terrible choice for captain, and that's not his fault. We named him captain here because he was captain in New York, and Babcock thinks leadership is showing up 15 minutes early for practice every day.

Dude is clearly not comfortable with being one of the boys, he's just a quiet, chill guy who wants to hang out at home with the wife and kids. Nothing wrong with that at all, you do you Johnny. But unless that quiet and chill guy turns into a big dick savage in pressure situations on the ice and is the ultimate "lead by example" type, that's not a good captain.

If Mo was actually a two way stud d and if they had literally anyone but Benoit, this d corps would be beautiful

Has Rielly been his main partner since then?

a) yes

b) what's probably more relevant here is that the Rielly-Carlo pairing doesn't get buried in defensive matchups. That's what the McCabe-Tanev pairing handles. So Carlo is now getting maybe the lightest dzone load he's had in a long while. Also, Rielly is likely the best puckmoving partner he's ever had. Note that in the first couple of games Tanev was injured and Carlo's nerdies were pretty ugly. Since Tanev has come back to take all the super toughs, Carlo's numbers have skyrocketed.

Since deadline 5v5:

Rielly: 5gms, 19:01 (-8.5dzs%), 55.8xgf%
Carlo: 5gms, 16:42 (+1.5dzs%), 62.4xgf%

McCabe: 5gms, 17:47 (+3.6dzs%), 68.4xgf%
Tanev: 3gms, 15:23 (+14.3dzs%), 63.7xgf%
Myers: 2gms, 13:32 (+7.5dzs%), 15.3xgf%

OEL: 5gms, 18:09 (-5.3dzs%), 45.4xgf%
Benoit: 5gms, 12:31 (+6.3dzs%), 21.9xgf%

Since Tanev returned:

Rielly: 19:07 (-12.0dzs%), 68.0xgf%
Carlo: 16:10 (+2.6dzs%), 73.6xgf%

McCabe: 17:57 (+4.9dzs%), 71.7xgf%
Tanev: 15:23 (+14.3dzs%), 63.7xgf%

OEL: 19:19 (-7.4dzs%), 42.7xgf%
Benoit: 12:46 (+5.1dzs%), 22.6xgf%

OEL obviously getting a bunch of time on the top two pairs - with McCabe in toughs the first 2gms, and with Rielly in easies the last 3gms.

Compared to how Carlo was used in boston:

TOR: 5gms, 16:42 (+1.5dzs%) 62.4xgf%

22-23: 75gms, 15:04 (+7.7dzs%), 55.6xgf% (+0.8rel)
