OT: American Politics

Good news is that the courts are fighting back.

Bad news is they seem inclined to say fuck em, we’re not complying.

Yup, but even the act of defying his power is useful.

Tim Snyder's book stresses the shit out of that and I agree. Everything any institution can do to slow the advance of power is good. They might feel all powerful at times, but they do have some limitations on their bandwidth and ability to manage challenges to their power.

I guess my point was that the current funding levels for a department of education has left them with a country literally on the brink of death. The population is barely able to read, and they are currently on the precipice of complete annihilation. Sorta feels like closing the barn door ten years after the horse died of bird flu.

She has all of the right ideas to create a massive populist wave. Someone needs to get her a speech writer, and she needs to do that Neo in the chair thing with all of MLK and Obama's speeches, but find her own tone. She doesn't let her ideas breathe, her speaking style doesn't have flair to grab an audience, etc.

The country needs her as a future President though, or someone very much like her.

Like most things down there, imo, it's not a lack of money. They spend a lot more per kid than we do.

“I get it that it makes people feel good to see people yelling,” Slotkin said. “But not one of those words is stopping the actual things that Donald Trump is doing.”

A constituent, Kristin Fellows, 62, had asked Slotkin and Democratic U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet what they would do to stand up to Trump like progressive Democrats Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“We know that you are against these current awful happenings going on in the world, but it is simply not enough for you to repeatedly tell us that you are,” Fellows said.

“My job is to be more than just an activist,” Slotkin said. “It is to answer the call when there’s an immigration raid and we need to figure out where our people are. All of those things require me to be more than just an AOC.”

----

Feel like this stance is not what Dem voters want right now and AOC very much is.
