Habs Season Thread: 2024-25 Regular Season

Sal was right about everything. Carrier/Matheson play all the tough minutes.

>>>The Canadiens’ acquisition of Carrier on Dec. 18 for Justin Barron dramatically changed their season — Montreal has a 21-11-6 record since the trade and its .632 points percentage over that span is fifth in the NHL. But what we are seeing from Matheson lately is almost the antithesis of what he had been his entire NHL career.

In just over 77 minutes at five-on-five with Matheson facing that collection of top-tier centres who have combined for 201 points at five-on-five in 395 games, the Canadiens have outscored the opposition 4-0. That allows the Canadiens to go win games, or at least collect points, in the other minutes once the top opposing threat has been neutralized.

Hate to interrupt this debate with an observation, but Matheson-Carrier pairing is only helping Matheson’s market value, even more than last seasons pts totals IMO, as he approaches final year of contract - with Mikey being “almost the antithesis of what he had been his entire NHL career” = growth as all around Dman.

I do wonder if there’s some type of Matheson / Rasmus Andersson deal to be had w Cgy as trade partner - w both players entering UFA season

Rass is looking at 7-8 x 8 moola

MM was worth the moon last summer , now is basically a 1 year rental

Yes always go with the cherry picked smaller sample size to fit your argument. Good tactic zeke.

And I'm just the news guy, I deliver the news about the muffin man. 🙂

The only reason you think Carrier is great, which he isn't but he is serviceable, is because he replaced Barron who is bloody atrocious.

No he wasn't. Other teams also know what he is, irrespective of his 62 pts. That was an outlier.
He's still worth a first.

We don't have anyone to replace him though and his skating is hard to replace. You have to take the good with the bad with him. When he's good he's great and when he's bad he's really bad.

I have never stated “Carrier is great” - only the 1:1 trade for dipshit was lopsided in favor of Habs.

Carrier is the Savard replacement on the 3rd pair for the near / mid term - less physicality but more mobility

I don't do that deal Sal, it's the epitome of a sideways move.

Their xGF and xGA are near identical including HDSC and Anderson gives the puck up more than Matheson.

This is the entire league this year. See who's the worst in the league? Yeah him.

Carrier is great in comparison to Savard. See above.

Wow looking at Andersson and Matheson you would be hard pressed to find two more comparable players. It's nuts how close their nerdies are. It definitely would be a sideways move. I would rather trade Matheson for a much younger player.

Give Uncle Lou Matheson and a first for Dobson. Or better yet, Matheson, Dach, Mailloux and both firsts for Dobson and Horvat.

I don’t see any GM offering up a young Dman w top-4 potential for Matheson - definitely not Dobson
