In truth, Gordie Howe is still the all-time goal scoring leader with 975 (NHL and WHA totals combined)

I realize that the NHL doesn't recognize WHA stats but they do that arbitrarily because they still hate the fact that the WHA ever existed and drove up labor costs for NHL owners. That's why they made sure to punish the 4 surviving WHA franchises when they joined the NHL in 1979. The Winnipeg Jets went from being an elite team which could have beaten most NHL teams, to a perennial doormat when all their best players were siphoned off in the merger process.

But the NHL does recognize all the non-NHL teams that beat their teams for the Stanley Cup back in the early 20th Century and they most certainly recognize the Cups they won versus those non-NHL teams. The Habs beat the Portland Rosebuds in 1916 to win this franchise's first of 24 Cups.

So in reality, The top 3 goal scorers of all time are:

Howe 975
Gretzky 940
Ovechkin 895

My Leaf buddies think 34 can , but would need another decade run of 50+ goals which I highly doubt

Yeah but once they clinched Florida rested guys handing Detroit the game. I don't want to see that crap out of the Lightning.
