OT: American Politics

today's market crash - coming after this idiot admin thought they actually did some powerful market-fixing action yesterday - might actually be even scarier than last week's crash.

hopefully it's just market speculators cashing in on the volatility, because otherwise it's the world firmly pricing in america's demise.

I mean he's not really giving them much choice

is it even a "win" if nobody bothered trying to beat you?

Eh, European automakers definitely tried to beat them, and Tesla only exists because the US government paid their bills for a decade in an attempt to try to win as well. It's a well earned win imo.

China identified EV's (among other green tech) as the industry they would use to leapfrog some of their previous problems, and they cornered the fucking market on them. I dislike China as much as anyone, but they put in the work and did a good thing well. Chinese manufacturing dominates mid complexity products now. The days of Chinese products being shit are behind us.

Now...with that said, they still haven't shown that they can do anything but take western ideas/designs, add some minor refinements and produce them at scale with good quality. Attached to this, they're not really that close to the western nations in their ability to produce true high technology products/equipment.

The GOP elders have traded economic prosperity in America for authoritarian dominance. It works for them.

They're about to learn why 20 years of projections that China was going to overtake the US economically turned out wrong.

It's the authoritarianism part.

Eh, the secret here is that Europe intends on getting their automotive industry into the military procurement business.

Their weapons contractors can't scale up fast enough to meet pending demand for...fucking everything. So expect the automotive manufacturers to get tapped to retool factories to build APC's, BMP's, Leopard's, etc, etc on contract.

This isn't dissimilar to what we're talking about re: America. Europe is going to happily outsource production and jobs building low margin mid level machinery (electric vechiles), and they'll pivot that domestic European capacity to much higher margin military hardware, which is a bigger export market than their electric vehicles were ever going to command anyway.

Hey...weird, the European automakers are...up on the news that BYD is coming to eat their lunch
