I don't think we should underestimate how big a blow this is to Maga International, and how big a boost it is to the democratic west. Us Canadians sometimes think we're a big deal but mostly get a little shy about embracing it. But we are a pretty big deal and especially now in the eyes of the leaders of the democratic west. They needed this almost more than we did.
This is USA Jr., america's closest friend and ally, and most similar culturally, instantly and remarkably turning on a dime against Trump 2.0's governance strategy.
I think sometimes we don't realize that currently Maga truly believes it is the voice of the people rising up globally against what they think is an evil empire. They 100% think they are in a pure ascendancy and that revolution is here.
To get so clearly rejected by their little brother is a big fin deal. They have been able to sort of ignore or bury other bad signs like Labor in England and general global reactions to tarriffs, but this one is both too cut and dry and too close to home to pooh pooh.
Even better that this election couldn't have been more clearly about the policies themselves, and nothing else. PP had a huge lead in the polls recently, so they can't blame corrupt polling (or corrupt elections by extension as they were in line with that polling, and the clear and obvious election issue was Maga pure and simple. There's literally no other explanation for what just happened. It's pretty perfect.
All the global democratic leaders rushed to loudly congratulate Carney in the wee hours as soon as they woke up. They are super happy.
NOW, of course, Carney has to use this and use this fast. There is a rare opportunity for quick and urgent action to form a new global democratic alliance and it sounds a bit crazy but we actually might be the best choice to lead it. We might be the only choice - the only country with both the economic heft and the lack of old grudges (like all european countries have) to get something real done.
