2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I was in the club of do nothing at the deadline cause I didn’t trust the management or the team.

Sucks we lost all that capital to try and re-tool with new management.
 
Would be looking at all the teams that also suck in the playoffs for 5+ years that need a shake up this offseason. LAK, caps, etc that want to exit talent to just get cap room to do something else. No idea what our tradeable assets to beat out other teams with cap space unless we luck out with NTC or NMC waiving to come here to lower the price to enter.

They became an even shittier version of the Alfredsson Sens. Who for all their playoff choking, could at least manage to regularly win playoff rounds and made a run to the Cup final.

This core had similar regular season success but with two single first round wins in an entire decade.

Want out of the 2025/26 roster in no particular order:

Domi
All Swedes not named OEL or Willy
Marner - it’s time to move on that he will win a championship somewhere else as a #4 or 5 in terms of roster talent in the future
Paks
MR

Only back if takes a contract to pay for what they will are/become:
JT (to be 3rd line LW + PP option) at 3.5m over 2 years

Recoup as many pics and prospects as possible.

Let marner walk, if someone wants to send us a 3rd for his rights then do it.
Maybe give Tavares a take it or leave it 1x$5MM offer, either way we need a new 2nd line C next season.

Top priority has to be getting knies on a long term deal, you have the space to "overpay" in year 1.

I dont like our D because it can't move the puck but no point throwing money at puck movers with berube at the helm.

Willy for a d. Nylander is a bit one dimensional and he’s not going to be good when he loses his explosiveness.

Big fat fucking no to Tavares.

Find someone willing to take rielly. Slow mo scares me about nylanders future.
 
Also, somebody needs to ask Bérubé to explain why the leafs gave up the neutral zone so easy… all fucking year…

Way too much space between the blue lines both north south and east west. Once Maurice figured that out It was easy as shit to attack the leafs with speed and then get them running around.

He was supposed to be here to mentally fix the core to not do this again. Never was an xo guy. Basically was a useless coach

It's really hard to truly re-tool when you have nothing to trade.

At this point, I’m honestly cheering for Rantanen to continue to go beast mode the rest of the way en route to winning a Conn Smythe & Stanley Cup.

Just really hammer home the contrast between him and the choking playoff no-show that vetoed our opportunity to acquire him. And to further cement Mitch as the biggest disappointment in franchise history and most hated ex-Leaf.
