2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Meh, players mature. At least some do. When the whistles are put away Bennett is a strong asset. Regular season he's meh though.

Sure, I’d like to have him but 90% chance he’ll be an overpay

They key to Panthers success is stacking surplus value contracts like Bennett at 4.4M and Forsling at 5.7M

Oh he'll definitely be an overpay.

And he did score in Calgary in the playoffs FWIW. Always been good in the clutch.

Not saying he’s worth what he’ll get but he’s not a Scott Laughton character guy.

He’s 28 year old Kadri.

Hey, Scott Laughton came in and hit lots of posts for us in the clutch.

All it cost was a first and a decent prospect.

I mean those teams made it to the 3rd round twice and got rumped in the 3rd round both times. And they had easier routes to the 3rd round too. And they were much older than our core.

This whole fucking timeline would've been corrected had we traded the exact same assets for Marchand and Carlo instead of that Laughton trade.

I still remember when they were announcing the trade late on TSN as the deadline hit and they said, wait now Marchand is traded too, I thought FOR SURE they were both coming to us in the same deal. That's a memory that will burn forever.

Actually most of those guys only made it once, and got hammered in the 3rd round by the canes.

The first time sundin made it was that fun no-pressure surprise year out of nowhere where a young medium talented leafs team got to beat an ok Flyers team that had lost Lindros, beat a mediocre pens team with one good player, and got hammered by a shitty sabres team being carried by Hasek.

But those grizzled super gritty epic playoffs vets leafs team only made it to the 3rd round once, getting hammered by the canes.

What makes you believe this? The core would remain the same. You think Marchand screaming at them would suddenly make Warner take a hit or Matthews play like he did for a period and half in game 6 for the rest of the games?

These guys in the same room just doesn't work regardless of who else is in the room.

In fairness, none of our current guys have groused about the pressure either.

It's all just media and other teams' players talking about it.

a large chunk of NHL players prefer to play in cities with a large amount of good golfing days and max anonymity

You don’t really hear about it in other sports.

Just Marchand not being in the other lineup would've done it.

Bennett is a lovely player. But Florida's trick is that they have several Bennett's at 4m and not at market value. They will move on and find the next value guy.

If we're not going to be smart enough to find that guy for 4 million, just pay the 7 million and be done with it. Much better than paying 11 million to get beat by that guy.
