There is a possibility he knows this group is soft and are losers and even he cant help.

Also possible the moron front office didnt think they needed him and wanted a tree and a sack of angry potatoes instead

Too late for this. They need to do what they should have done when they lost to the Habs. Blow it up. They're never going to win with this core 4. At least 2 of them need to go.

The answer may really be with Rielly and OEL and getting a real offensive first pair D. Our transition from the backend has always been trash from day one. If we had just picked Hutson over Minten, again, timeline would look so different now.

This is the same thing you said a year ago. The Leafs got annihilated and in the first 24 hours everyone was on board with wanting sweeping changes. After 48 hours it was "Well, obviously you can't get rid of Marner..."

This core will never win a goddamn thing together. If they could they'd have done it by now. Individually they're elite but together they are garbage. Get. Rid. Of. Them. Let Marner walk. Let Tavares walk. Use the cap space to get players who have game. You dont need their points to make the playoffs and their lack of points is what preve is you from winning in the playoffs. Get. Rid. Of. Them.
 
The fact that Marchand was the one to do it too. Got his juices flowing and everything suddenly went to shit in game 4.

oh, he smells money. I think he would have come here at the deadline, but not over Florida if given the choice and I'm sure Boston was giving him the choice of where he wants to go.

Right now though, he knows Florida is unlikley to throw 3/18 at him or some shit and we're super likely to.

Why wouldn't he have chosen the Leafs over Florida at the deadline if both options were available? I don't think there was any reason to think Florida was a heavy favorite or anything (at that time it wasn't even clear that they wouldn't be playing TB), and I don't think he went there for a couple months of sun.

He keeps saying he's been a Leaf fan all his life, and now EF and everyone here is saying he's trying hard to pave his way to us in the offseason. It makes zero sense that he'd want to join us next season but didn't prefer to come over this season when it was a better situation. Why step into the minefield that we've got now? If anything, I have strong doubts he would consider it now.
 
And if we go with the option of burning a year, without throwing in the towel, if they won't bring back Marner, then Marchand would be a fun guy to plug in on a one year deal at the money he wants, and then try to get him cheaper in a McDavid year if we still want him. All pie in the sky nonsense with everything up in the air right now, but still.
