2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

yah they can make whatever choices they want for the family. but the travel and relocation are part of what they signed up for.

Max definitely made it all worth it with his playoff performance. But I'd still rather we focus on getting faster, faster, and faster.

I'm sorry I don't have Leafs season tickets and don't go to every single home playoff game like some others here.

Matthews also explained that he didn’t want to state the exact nature of the injury because he believed opponents could target that area in the future. “It’s my right to (keep it private), I believe,” he said.

He added that he doesn’t believe the pressure of playing in Toronto is a problem, even though the Leafs failed to advance beyond the second round for the ninth consecutive season since he joined the team as the No. 1 pick in 2016.

“I love playing in Toronto and playing for this fan base and this organization,” Matthews said. “I think that kind of stuff is just kind of outside noise that isn’t really focused on or talked about too much in our locker room.”

if opponents can target it in future, again suggests it may be a chronic or recurring issue. excellent.

Richest team in the league is run by clowns and its scary to think of the damage they would have done with his cap space if shut down for the season

and again, makes playing through it even dumber.

I'm at the age now where injuries I did not rehab properly when I was younger are popping up again, except with more vigor. it's a thing, for sure.

so much for our vaunted sports sciences team.

I call BS.

Aren’t most injuries subject to being “targeted”?

That’s not how the league works. Ie Brendan Gallagher has suffered multiple hand injuries… opponents have not amped their hand slashing

I saw the interview and I didn't see Matthews saying anything about opponents targeting the injury. He just said he'd rather keep it private. Could be for lots of reasons. None particularly make much sense to me, but he's always been weird about disclosing health stuff. Though he usually reveals it at the end of the year so this is a bit unusual!

I mean whatever it is, it clearly is high risk for being chronic. He's been hurt for at least 9 months now. And surgery won't fix whatever it is. Duh, of course it may be chronic.
