2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Very cool. I like finding stuff like that. My wife and daughters think I’m nuts. Lol
I'm fascinated by ancient man and the stone tools they left behind. I always try to imagine where the material from each point originated compared to where it was found. I also wonder what things looked like around here thousands of years ago when the point was being used. Was it a favorite point, or was it strictly utilitarian? Did it feed him/her or did it save their life? What was their life like & what was the farthest they wandered? Was there something aesthetically pleasing about the stone, or was it just another tool material? Whenever I pick one up, it may have last been handled by a human 8,000 (or more) years ago. They were modern man, just like us, except they had to know how to survive in their environment, which is vastly different from ours & vice-versa. Whenever I find a point, it always makes my mind race and blows my mind simultaneously. Too bad they can't talk. You can sort of tell that I'm easily entertained.

Walking for miles & looking for artifacts is decent exercise...it also keeps me out of the BINGO parlors (joke only). They're out there if you go looking for them and know what to look for. There's way worse things I could be doing with my time. I'm certifiably nuts & it's a damn good thing my wife recognized & accepted that 33 years ago. Looking forward to the chance at finding the next point.

I know that many here are not big NBA fans, but the ending of tonight’s opening Finals game was incredible. Another amazing comeback by the Pacers.

Both the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals are off to great starts, despite the lack of “marquee” teams.

At no time did the Indiana Pacers have a lead over the OKC Thunder in last night's game until 0.3 seconds left in the game. And it's not like OKC had just a 3 point lead the whole game. No, they were up anywhere from 9 to 15 points all through the 3rd quarter. Indy even had 25 freakin turnovers!

The general complaint being that there's no real reason to get to this point without other options. The Steelers acted like this was a viable idea right from the get-go. And piddled around long enough to once again let him skip off season workouts.

My youngest brother is a Steelers fan, though I haven't gotten his take on the transaction yet. I heard it was pretty slim pickin's (what in the wide, wide world of sports is-a-goin'-on here?) in the used QB pantry, so I suppose it's the devil you know versus the devil you don't know. Good luck to the Steelers. I hope Coach Tomlin has a modicum of patience for selfish, stubborn behavior. Hopefully, they'll get more than 4 downs out of AR before he gets broken.

Charlotte Checkers faceoff against the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL Calder Cup Finals starting Friday 6-13-25 @ 7:00 p.m.
It's kind of hard to believe a sports league takes a longer break between series than the NHL or the NBA?

The Checkers swept Laval, the Canucks just wrapped their series up last night. But what’s really strange is that they’re play8ng every other day. They play 2-3-2 but game 2 is in Charlotte on 6/15 at 4:00 with game 3 on Tuesday. The Oilers and Panthers had 2 days off between games 2 and 3 and have another 2 days after today before game 4 on Thursday. Amerant Bank Arena doesn’t have anything on their schedule for Wednesday, but game 3 of the NBA Final is Wednesday and the NHL probably doesn’t want to go up against that on TV.

RIP Sly Stone. I loved that dude's music so this is a biggie. COPD is a terrible way to go. I had an uncle that died of it and for the last year or so of his life, he "slept" in a chair.

So we went to see The Phoenician Scheme at the Alamo Drafthouse on Friday, and I have to say, it was everything you guys said it was. A very enjoyable experience.

Of course, with food and wine and Uber thrown in we ended up dropping $200+ for the two of us to watch a first run movie, but what the heck. At least the home team didn't lose.
