Because we never have or are unwilling to deal assets to take these kinds of chances when they are available. Tre was on the wrong end of the Bennett trade if I remember correctly.

That's something to remember here when we're pining for that. Lots of that type of player gets moved around the league. Most of them don't turn into what you want them to turn into.
If we look at what that "type" of move is when you're looking for a Bennett or a Reinhart, you're talking about taking a high draft pick off of a bad team that hasn't lived up to their draft slot. For every Bennett or Reinhart, there are 3 Dubois, Puljujarvi's, or Dylan Cozens'
The real imperative is to fix your draft/develop and be an organization that drafts talent, gets it ready for the league, and then....gives it a fucking chance to contribute rather than giving other people's misfit toys a chance.

Yeah, you should get gud at drafting and developing yourself before you make the leap to fixing guys others teams mishandled.

my problem is that we never take any of those chances. When is the last time we got a player at a discount(in comp to true talent) and had him provide significant surplus value?
How we don’t have the best scouting staff in the league is baffling considering how much money we make.
There has to be a total overhaul of management. I’m at a point where I don’t really give a shit what they do this offseason because the same dummies will be making the decisions.

even an obscure player like Niko Mikkola (6th rd pick) is interesting.. the guy is huge but some pro scout in Florida focused on his straight line speed (which is elite) and argued that he'd be a perfect fit for the Panthers system

I believe Forbes a few years back had an expert do the Mark Stone contract and while it was more than he'd make in Canada, it was much less than most think.

As I've been saying, there are no good solutions. They're fucked and I cringe thinking about the moves that are about to be made. They have a d corps that is a day away from imploding due to age and a Matthews quietly at the end of his prime age and being held together by duct tape.. so you can't really afford to do anything but go for broke and try to win. But I legitimately don't see how they get there.
