Hurricanes 2024-25 Post Mortem and Off Season Stuff

BTW, not sure where it should be mentioned but I like the move for Cayden Primeau last night. He's REALLY close to being NHL ready and was an absolute beast in the A last season and has shown flashes in his prior NHL stints. He's basically replacing Martin in the goalie ladder and is still on the upside of his development instead of the downside. That's a solid move.
Yep, huge upgrade over Martin.

Seeing a lot of noise connecting Carolina to Ehlers and next to none connecting them to Boeser. Just FWIW.

And is anybody surprised that the Kings didn't get Gavrikov signed last night? I know there's a lot of online chatter linking him to the Rangers, but ... that's online chatter. If you listen to that crap then every free agent is signing with the Rangers or Leafs every year.

Emily Kaplan is reporting Stankoven's extension at 8 years by $6 million. If that's right, it's not only good news, it's GREAT news.

Edit ... Canes just confirmed 8 years, total value $48 million. Boom.

So I guess we're waiting on the Ehlers sales pitch evaluation process then? I'm still hearing Carolina's in there for him and still badly need a top 6 winger.

Apparently in Canada the leak is out, Ehlers to the Canes. Most of the chatter up there says Ehlers thinks his game is geared best to Carolina’s style of play.

Yeah, we'll see. I'm still not seeing anything from any sources I'd trust to be doing more than guessing. Then again, with Bob MacKenzie retired, that list is VERY short. Personally I think Ehlers' game fits the Caps better than it does the Canes, but Carolina does need him on the power play more. The trick may be a combination of the market and the cash more than anything else. But if he picks Washington, I'd get it.

I do think Ehlers finally let Winnipeg off the hook yesterday, otherwise they wouldn't have signed Nyqvist. Not that he's a replacement, but they flat out wouldn't need him around if Ehlers was coming back.

We still have that gaping hole at 2nd line center with KK penciled into that spot. If the Canes can somehow find a very good option for that spot, we really could be cooking.

When you actually try to piece together some lines, you see the opportunities for something else to emerge. Certainly none of those 4 RWs I listed belong on the 4th line. We also have 13 forwards who are all pretty good. Do the Canes really plan to go into the season like that and then look to make a mid-season deal or do they plan to try to address the 2C problem before the season begins?

2 holes atm 2C and 1RD. Well probably make a move for a rd and play musical chairs. 2C until people see they are failing don't see the opening other than maybe Kadri but I think Calgary has higher hopes atm

Who on the Canes roster would you be ok with trading for a center? If a trade partner was on the phone with a center who is a decent upgrade over CokeCan.
