2025 Free Agent Frenzy

Seeing more semi-credible chatter on Ehlers ... looks like it's probably down to Washington, Carolina and Anaheim. If he chooses Anaheim it's for the California sun and the 1st line minutes, because that roster ain't competing for anything any time soon. Carolina and Washington are both in the competitive mix, at least. Tampa keeps getting mentioned as well, but BriseBois basically said that they're not adding that kind of contract. Translated that probably means that he doesn't want to further blow up his middle six for another big free agent contract. Because they don't have the Cap and they're going to have to re-work that D again next summer.

This!!! I've seen a ton of "Let Tulsky Cook" memes, but just like any good chef...some people love the dish he's cooking and some will hate it and bitch about it and try and send it back...
I'll never understand the cult of GMs. Just calm down and let the results speak. Why does everything have to be some sort of PR campaign?

Rumors persist that Colorado is in for Ehlers and that they'd move Necas to make it work. So, IF Carolina could do the funniest thing possible and wrench Necas back from Colorado for 3rd pairing D help ... would you? It would be a rental, but it would be hilarious.

The punchline to doing that would be dealing Necas for another huge name next January.

Its amazing a guy like Elhers at that level, is the hottest thing on the market. He's about to be very overpaid by somebody.

Tulsky always says we will be creative and do everything we can to make us better...and something as nutty and unconventional as that is right up the Canes alley... :ROFLMAO:

If Colorado wants to send Necas back to us so they can clear out some cap room for Ehlers and trade assets going back are not all that much I would do it.

Pretty sure that's a trick you can only get away with one time. Carolina may not have known for sure that they couldn't get Rantanen to even listen to an offer, but they 100% knew they weren't going to get Necas re-signed in 2026. Now the whole world knows it. He probably ain't signing in Colorado either, and certainly not for a discount. If he gets moved out of Colorado it will be for a rental rate unless somebody gets desperate or delusional. It's the NHL, so you can never fully rule out either of those options.

Based on on ice return, the same thing happened with Orlov in 2023. He was by far and away the best defenseman on that market and Carolina paid him handsomely ... only to get 2nd and 3rd pairing minutes out of the guy.

I suspect the team will miss his off-ice contributions more than his work as a D-man.
He gets a $1 million base and games played bonuses could add another $3 million.

But the Kinetico curse continues…Peters, Forslund, Burns. Only Bill Burniston has survived.

Very smart signing by the Avs. Take a guy that looked like he was skating in wet cement in a location that was close to sea level and sign him to a 7 figure contract a mile up from sea level. Galaxy brain thinking.
