Blake Signs 8-Year, $45 Million Extension

Blake showed some offensive flair out there that we seriously lack. I have no idea what the kid's ceiling might really be, but the Canes are not waiting around for him to have a breakout season apparently.

Love it. Lock up your young core for decent price. Makes filling in the blanks easier when you have your good young core locked up long term. Plug and play at the trade deadline or offseason just hope you don’t get stuck with a dude from Colorado who doesn’t want to be here 😝. Even if Blake doesn’t turn out to be as good as Jarvis he’s still going to be at least a good 2/3 line guy for many years. His style fits this team perfectly. Plus, with that contract if they absolutely have to move him it’s not a hard contract to move

Not only is this a team-friendly deal for an up-and-coming talented player (which is going to look oh so much better in a few years with a rising cap), it also makes it a potentially valuable opportunity to include in a larger trade deal package, if warranted. I absolutely love this.

You said what I meant in a more clear and concise manner. Lol

This was one I was looking for from the team. Eight years is a long time and makes these deals a bargain. Like Rod said, when you know you know with a player. Blake is a good utility winger of which you can't have enough of, and will probably be a 60 point guy going down the road. Great signing, again. The holes are getting filled one shovel full at a time. Great stuff!
GMET appears to be pushing all the right buttons from what I see. Well done, Sir and congratulations to Jackson Blake!
There's a lot of quality being built into this team.

FWIW, there's some risk to these deals for Stankoven and Blake, because unlike Jarvis they haven't yet actually produced the numbers that make those deals make sense. That said, the team is very confident in both players and clearly has taken max advantage of the 8 year deal incentive while they have it. On top of the Cap management here, which is top shelf, you have to feel good about how many guys have been willing to hitch their wagon to the Canes on long term deals. It negates all that "nobody wants to play in Carolina for Brind'Amour" nonsense.
