OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Would a handful of starts, even if they're great, get him some big money term deal this offseason and make everyone forget about the last two years?

Yes. TJ isn't scary anymore to teams, the UCL is a wear item to most orgs. He's going to be one of the top 2-3 pitchers on the market this winter if he's good for us down the stretch. That's kind of my point here, if he's good, we're unlikely to end up keeping him. If he's not good, he probably picks up his option and then we hope he's good next year.

Feel like these guys love to sign guys without the open market to contend with and would find a way if they wanted him.

The way is by paying him market rate. At the time of the trade the expectation around the league was that this is a gamble on Bieber being a high end rental.

I'm sure they'd love to keep him if he's back to form, but they'll have to pay him.
