Habs Season Thread: Offseason 2025

They've not started a resale here yet. And Im waiting for when Habs tickets in Montreal go on sale. I e already got my table at the Rocket game booked.
 
On Fat Tony's podcast last night the idea was floated about converting Xhekaj into a winger. This isn't a crazy idea, actually, and there is precedent. Gary Leeman, a 50 goal scorer for the Leafs and part of the Habs 93 Cup winner, started out in Toronto as a defenseman. Wendel Clark played defense in junior. Mark Howe started as a forward in the WHA before converting to defense.

Playing the wing is infinitely more easy than playing the blue line and Xhekaj has the size and skill to be an effective forward. I'd much rather see him utilized that way than to simply spend half the season in the press box, only playing when Struble isn't getting things done.
 
It’s not a new idea, it’s been floating around a bit, including by myself. I still think he can be an effective defenseman though, just need consistency in his game, and then he’ll be a lot more valuable than as a 4th line winger.

If he simplifies his game and picks his spots when to thump players he has a 15 year career .

He is a good skater and decent puck mover , very few have his skill set at his size

I think Struble is a better winger than a D
