2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

In the end, McTavish has no leverage. If Verbeek wants to bridge him then he'll eventually have to accept it, just like Subban did.

Interesting part of all these McTavish rumors is even though Det is being forecasted as the front runner, an 8yr deal to a player coming off ELC goes totally against Stevie Ys career operating procedure & philosophy as GM - is he all of a sudden willing to change because he’s now on the hot seat & cant take a chance at missing playoffs again? Same applies for Verbeek, can he afford having a disgruntled young player in the locker room after ramming a short term deal down his throat?

I wouldn’t count Habs out of it, the end game might not end up being the acquisition cost it should theoretically be / being forecasted by many due to “other variables” at play

Ironically both Verbeek & Stevie Y are on the hot seat - as a minimum, Ana needs to be in the hunt for a playoff spot & Det needs to qualify

DET looks to be in a bad place, likely due to ownership interference. They seem more likely to be limited to a sideways move than us.

Beck, Engstrom, Kapanen, picks.

There’s a deal there. I doubt Detroit will gut their team of top prospects.

Matheson, Beck and an unprotected first is more than fair.

Engstrom and Kapanen also have value.

The ducks don’t need more middling centres, goalies, or young LH D. They are swimming in those while we have an abundance as well.

What they need are big RD (Reinbacher), top 6 wingers or potential unicorns (Flojack).

just like Reinbacher had to go for Dobson.

Not happening.

Either xhekaj might be asked though.

And the Ducks actually need centers, which is why this news of McTavish being available is puzzling.

Ownership has apparently given Stevie Y carte blanche… I said it after he was named GM.

Stevie Y was a creation of:

- being right place at right time working for NHL HQ when concussions lawsuits first started and was able to use inside info to go against the grain focusing on drafting & trading for small skill when rest of the league was following LAK / Bruins heavy hockey mentality when named TBay GM in 2010
+
- no state tax TBay advantage

In Det, drafting has been avg at best, trades & UFA signings mediocre
