OT: World Politics

I mean, most of the anti Semitism I've ever come across comes from the right. maybe anecdotal, but that's my experience. the Jews running the banks and space laser stuff comes from the right, generally.

Same. I know a bunch of "stop the apartheid" types but in my experience talking to them they're all sincere in what they want. Palestinians to have a home free of Israeli occupation. If that actually happened, I'm pretty confident most of them would move on to another similar cause. I don't think they'd be Israel's biggest fan afterwards, but the opposition would stop.

Exactly. The left doesn't hate Israel because "The Joos", they hate Israel for actual reasons. If they stop genociding Palestinians and agree to a 2 state solution, the left goes away happy.

But with the right, the problem with Israel is that they aren't Christians. And that's never changing. They dont hate Israel for what they do but for what they are.

I think not-insignificant portion of the anti-Israel stuff from the left originates from the fact that the left largely considers Jews to be regular ‘ole white people.

So in their minds, Israelis get slotted into the usual “white European settler colonialists” role in this play, while Palestinians take the role of “poor, downtrodden, non-white native population being forced off their land”.

There’s also the fact that for an ever-increasing portion of the population, World War 2 and The Holocaust are becoming an ever more distant and abstract concept. And in keeping with human nature throughout the entire existence of our species, the lessons of history are forgotten pretty much a generation or two after all the people who experienced it firsthand have croaked. So the argument for why the need for a Jewish state/Jewish homeland is of such paramount importance is no longer convincing to this younger cohort of people.

A senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office stressed to The Times of Israel on Wednesday that the war in Gaza is still “not over,” despite US President Donald Trump’s insistence earlier this week that it is, and a letter from the government to hostage families saying that the war had ended.

“We are still in the first phase,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity while referring to the ceasefire and hostage release deal that halted two years of fighting. “We have to complete it. Without completing it, it’s not over.”
