GDT | Game #16 | vs El Eh | Tuesday, November 11th 7:00 PM EST

I find Slaf has been generally ok so far this year, though it would be nice if he could leverage his size more than he does.

He was awful against LA.

My fear is that he doesn’t have the hockey IQ or confidence to optimize all his tools

As in Cooley’s whopping 4 more pts w nothing in last 5GP as Utes started playing better teams?

He solves our second line C prob
while Leonard plays power forward on 1st line.

We’re a better team right now with the above

But things could change as Slaf/Rein are still young pups

???

My bad

I made a mistake

But my overall thesis remains intact

Cooley/Leonard >>
Cooley is better right now. Leonard I don't think so, yet anyway.

I think Slaf has been playing a lot better overall this year, yesterday non-standing.

Points don't tell the whole story, he's been generating a lot of offensive possession time through his forecheck and winning puck battles. But he still hasn't puck together the necessary puck skills for completing plays, he still misses too many shots and passes.

Habs simply had the wrong year to shit the bed

We needed a year with Carlson , Fantilli , Celebrini , Schaefer as prizes

Montembault seems to be "playing small" if there is such a thing. Pushing pucks out to players, not asserting himself in the crease, "hoping" to stop it. No confidence. Granted, I don't know much about the technical side of goaltending.

Lots of it are confidence symptoms. He plays too deep, goes down too quickly, and moves way too much, often overcommitting to the shot on one side that makes him vulnerable for deflections, and scrambling on rebounds instead of staying compact in base position. Way too many pucks going through his legs because he's caught moving for no reasons.

When Slaf is Slafzilla he can take over a shift. Strong on the boards, down low and in puck retention/retrieval. He doesn’t need to destroy people when he does that and he can get opportunities to distribute.

But he’s still inconsistent and sometimes goes MIA. He needs to realize he ain’t like 13, 14, 48 or 93. He doesn’t play champagne hockey, he plays Jack Daniel’s.
