The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

And Dellow argued with Steve Simmons on tsn 1050 about david bolland, tyler bozak and mikhail grabovski.

All the same tbh

i can hold my own vs Steve Simmons....Mehta uncovered some 17 year old playing in Sweden....but your point stands!

Great nerdy candidates available...pick one. Don't get Pronged.

Yeah, I'm kind of blown away by that. I posted Bratt's pre draft numbers in the other thread. They're...not pedestrian, but hardly standout on the surface. His J-20 numbers at 16 were good, similar to Filip Forsberg, Andre Burakovsky, Vrana...but higher than Fiala & Pastrnak. Way way lower than Willy & Lucas Raymond though.

he must have had TOI data and his linemate distribution

Actually...after looking at the Allsvenskan production, I take it back and I think I see what Mehta's model was looking at.

Bratt produced similarly in Allsvenskan at 17 as Filip Forsberg & Elias Petterson. Yeah, all of his 16 & 17 yr old comparables were studs.

A big step down from Willy at those ages, and Pastrnak had gapped up that age 17 year as well. But Bratt was as good as everyone else. Side note...Anton Frondell might be Chicago's next star based on these same comparisons.

The story goes that he didn't really trust the model when he saw bratt that high. It was a new model and he felt some of the results it spit out were wonky. But once the 4th round came, he started pushing for the devils to pick bratt.

Data driven process

Yeah, I assume his shit is a bit more sophisticated than going to quanthockey and checking his two pre draft seasons for comparables. But I see what his models was looking at in Bratt now for sure. I don't see "3rd overall" in my quick glance, but I see 1st rounder.

for sure....and he also had the luxury knowing nobody else would pick him anywhere near there.

Chicago nerds are crazy excited about Frondell, and also think year 2 of Lardis + Kansterov + 26 1RD could mean mega leaps up front

Noticed him for the first time ever going through their recent draft record yesterday. Yeah, we're going to draft a kid in the 2nd round who puts up the best 21 yr old PPG in KHL history and near Kaprizov levels at 20.

When does he come over?

I think he's really crept up prospect charts, i've seen him as high as top 20, and he's considered top 2-3 in the Hawk org.

Its equally interesting to see how Levshunov, Rinzel and Korchinski develop in the off year

I think you guys are probably shit again next year but with an obvious light at the end of the tunnel. But then the improvements start to come quick. There's just going to be too much talent all getting good in the league at the same time.
Shit, yes, but bottom 2 in the league again? maybe not.

It doesn't help them that the Central is a damned juggernaut.

If McKenna/Ivar, Kansterov, Frondell, Lardis (2) Levshunov, Moore and Rinzel all take positive steps and they sprinkle some FA money on some non useless plug vets ( maybe one on each side of the ice, or Robertson like HR swings) they could be next years San Jose this year?

Maybe, but I think SJS was a bit of a special case though playing in that division. They were bottom 5 in regulation wins and bottom 5 in 5v5 xG. They were still really, really bad. It's just that Celebrini is insane (in a way that Bedard isn't) and they won a pile of games in 3 on 3 + SO.

So could that be Chicago next year? Sure, maybe, but that's luck driven imo and not indicative of what San Jose actually is still.

The Athletic wrote a big piece on Kansterov this week, his contract is up in Russia so he's free to come over.

A lot of comps with Kaprizov

Compared to Kaprizov, Kantserov’s development projection isn’t as definitive. In data scientist Byron Bader’s NHL-equivalency model, Kantserov isn’t on track to be an NHL star three years after being drafted, while Kaprizov was. Kantserov had a strong draft year, then he took a step back in the model the next season before his incredible rise the season after. Kaprizov improved season after season in Bader’s five-year development window, which focuses on the two seasons before being draft eligible, the draft-eligible season and the two seasons after that.

Kantserov’s production taking off this season should still give the Blackhawks hope. His rise in Bader’s model is unusual.

“I’m really not sure what to make of him,” Bader said. “In a database of over 5,400 (forwards), he doesn’t really have a near production growth pattern to anyone. … Marty LaPointe, Marty St. Louis and Eric Staal are a few players that, if you squint, had similar parts to their pattern. (Vladimir) Tarasenko is maybe another one that has some similar parts of their pattern.”

The D could maybe look for a Hamilton type.

I also wonder if we'd have interest in Rielly.

Our vets are basically Vlasic, who's pretty good and Louis Crevier who is 6:7 and showed more offensive flair for a tree than i thought possible. I forgot about Kaiser, people seem to like him, and Boisvert got in games up front.

Sounds like someone i am very excited to see on an ELC beside Bedard/Lardis or Frondell/Nazar, or whichever pair is a thing, add in an Ivar/McKenna and thats a fun top 6, with guys like Tuevo, Moore, Boisvert, Bertuzzi, Donato, Greene and Mikheyev ( i hear they want him back) decent to good 3/4 liners

I don't know shit about the kid. But I would imagine that being a 21 yr old young man in Russia over the last 4 years has come with anxieties and mental health issues that are uncommon for 17-21 yr olds to deal with in Bader's model. From the fear of himself being drafted and sent to the front lines, to the high likelihood that he has friends or family that have gone. He's not from one of the sheltered regions either where mobilization has been kept out of public life as much as possible. Kid is from the part of Russia that sacrifices for the sake of Muscovy & St Petersburg.

Playing against men is always such a big boon for a kid who goes through the traditional development cycle as well.

Also alot of this stuff could be part of a package for some disgruntled player who wants out of whatever.

Id say Bedard, Levshunov, Frondell and the 26 1st are the only untouchables.
