ESPN gave us an early start, now we get a slightly later start.

The Canes will try to take a 2-0 lead to Ottawa later this week. Teams with a 2-0 lead win the series roughly 86% of the time if Google’s AI overview is to be believed.

I don’t expect Tkachuk to start something at the faceoff tonight, but expect more hitting from the Sens. They were badly out hit 57-39 and will probably try to change that. Sens coach Travis Green had no update on the status of dman Artem Zub yesterday. He only played 7:44 on Saturday, leaving in the 2nd period with an injury. The Sens used 13 dmen this season, so they’re used to needing replacements.

Black jerseys, FanDuel and ESPN for TV.

We need to watch out for an extreme overcorrection by Ottawa on the physicality department. It was kind of stunning to see us bullying them around the rink in game 1. Nick Cousins is likely going to be looking to take a piece of someone out there and of course Tkachuk will likely be doing Tkachuk things.

Would be a good time for the first line to find the back of the net.

One other area that needs improvement is faceoffs. Sens tied for best in the league and the Canes were manhandled winning 24 and losing 31. Aho was the primary culprit, winning 2 of 11, losing all 7 of his offensive zone draws, 5 against Giroux, 2 against Eller. Staal was 10-8, winning all 4 against Meathead and 3 of 5 against Giroux but only 3 of 9 against Cozens and Eller. Stanky was 4 of 10, Janky 6 of 13.

Given that they couldn’t solve Andersen through conventional means, the unconventional convention would be to try to rough him up. Wouldn’t surprise me to see far more attempts to screen, which will inevitably lead to some “Oops I fell into the crease. How thoughtless of me. Bless my heart.” The Canes have been through so many series and done to teams so many times what they did to the Sens on Saturday that they will know every possible adjustment Travis Green might make and be prepared for all of it. The value of experience.

Zub isn’t on the ice for the Sens. Kleven is skating with a partial bubble cage but with Yakemchuk on the 4th pair. Matinpalo is with Sanderson.
