The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

I do think things would have been very different likely in a positive way if shanny hired Chayka instead of treliving. This opinion is not even based on Chayka being good, it's just that Treliving was actively destructive in a way that few can accomplish.

I said the same thing when they hired Bundy. Shame on me.

Yah the flip side of this is that they could just be at the beginning of accelerating into a decade-long dark age where they're scraping the bottom with no first rounders for years to come, along with Matthews and Nylander eventually bailing, run by a nickel-and-diming Rogers ownership trying to ressurect the glory days of Harold Ballard.

As with most scenarios with defined extremes, we'll likely end up somewhere in-between... which given how quickly Tre turned this franchise into a lottery contender, might be a win?

Why does this have disaster written all over it? Chayka didn’t unlock some genius algorithm that changed the game in AZ but his personnel decisions were sound. He built a solid foundation that the team continues to benefit from (and would look even better if they hadn’t traded chychrun). He made some missteps behind the scenes but nothing maturity shouldn’t fix.

Because he was shit at his job and has done nothing since to prove he’s improved. “Maturing” is a funny way of saying “I hope he smartened up” and doesn’t prove he’s any better than he was before.

And I understand wanting to be optimistic. But this franchise just keeps tripping over its own feet every single step of the way. I would love to see this work out. And I hope it does. Chayka has done nothing to prove he’s the best candidate for this job.

Assuming he is the guy, we'll likely have a pretty good idea of Chayka's capabilities before the start of next season. For example if Berube is still the HC he's almost certainly a puppet hire and is in another toxic ownership situation ala the Coyotes.
