If Berrios looks like he's not a better option than Patrick Corbin then i dunno how you can bring him up
Oh I don't think Corbin is better, just the difference between the two isn't that big. Also, the Jays elite defence would help Berrios outperform his FIP, no? I've been pleasantly surprised by Corbins okayness. The problem with Corbin is that he has been consistently worse than his FIP for the last like 5-6 seasons (basically since he stopped being good). If you take his last 4 years, Berrios has beat his FIP more consistently than not. He still hasn't been great, but if he at least gets back to being healthy, I trust him more the rest of the season.
Corbin is someone who can pitch when injuries are murdering you, and we have gotten lucky that he hasn't been dreadful. But I have 0 faith in him going forward. He's basically due for back to back starts with 7 ER in 2 innings or less.
I don't mind giving Berrios as much time in the minors as he needs, and stretching him to the limit of what he's allowed in his rehab assignments. But I do think you want him back relatively soon still.
