Hopefully the series momentum flew west with the team. The Canes are 6-0 on the road in the playoffs, outscoring the opponents 20-8.

A bad start, a rousing comeback, a bad challenge and 2 power play goals all made an appearance on Thursday. Hopefully the game winner jumpstarts Jarvis and Aho.

No word from Vegas on Brayden McNabb’s status. He did fly back with the team after being checked out in the hospital on Thursday.

ABC for TV, Mike and Tripp on radio, Forslund on National radio. I’m going to miss this one, I’ll be walking my daughter down the aisle when the puck drops.

Another reason to be glad we closed out Montreal in 5 else today's would be a home game you are missing! A great reason to miss one though.. congrats to you, the MOtB and blessings to the happy couple!

I did see where Vegas listed McNabb as questionable for tonight. Knowing Torts, he’s playing games with that. Also knowing Torts, it’ll be a dumb, pointless game. That shouldn’t impact Carolina’s game plan for tonight and the stuff you might change is stuff you can adjust on the fly. So … meh. I hope he’s not hurt as badly as it looked like he could be though.

You know what this series really needs? A less cinematic game, please. Something normal. Like a 3-2 nail biter. But given how this has gone so far, we’ll probably end up with multiple OTs. Fine. Whatever it takes, I guess.

I’m interested to see how quickly the Canes can figure out how to defeat whatever obstruction Torts cooks up to keep them off the forecheck tonight. One of the under-commented things that happened in the 3rd period on Thursday was Carolina figuring out how to get the 2nd forward past the pinch point Vegas had been setting up to slow down the pressure. It kind of started to click when Brindy gave Staal two flyers on his wings, because to beat the forward who’s coming to chip him, Carolina’s F2 has to be really moving. That makes me think that he might either start the game with those line changes or at least be willing to go back to them fairly quickly.

Honestly, other than fan support and sleeping in your own bed, I don’t think there’s a lot of advantage to being at home in this series. It’s really not a matchup game so much as it’s a cat and mouse game with small tactical tweaks. Brind’Amour may not have a reputation for that kind of stuff, but that’s kind of a sneaky strength of this staff. And while I really would like a more normal game at some point, I don’t think the matchup is going to serve up many, if any, of those. Buckle up buttercup

Congrats!

Really impressed with the amount of watch parties popping up all over the Triangle for this Cup run for the Canes. Seeing tons of Canes swag everywhere and even the non hockey folks enjoying the excitement of this great Cup run!!! I know most of us hardcore fans in here go way back to the Greensboro days and have a couple of these Cup Final runs in our back pockets but always great to see the area truly welcome on board another whole new wave of fans!

Weirdly, the guys that need to get going for the Canes to get more traction in the offensive zone are a lot of the guy that got them here. Hall has been a mess on the puck. Slavin and Chatfield have been making weird decisions and taking too long to process choices. Aho has been too focused on defending and isn’t taking enough chances in possession. In general, the whole bunch has been too reluctant to do the one thing everybody says they do too much and just throw pucks into the mix zone in front and then go retrieve the misses. In other words, if the Hurricanes want to win this series the way they’re built to win it … they can get started at any time because we haven’t really seen it yet. They’ve gotten so frustrated with what Vegas is doing defensively that they’ve gotten away from their own game WAY too much. They can still win that way, or else this series wouldn’t be tied and both games wouldn’t have been so close. But they’ve been playing Vegas’ game. Time to go play Hurricanes hockey and a lot of times for this club, getting away from home is just the thing to get them going. What I’m looking for tonight is the same old song and dance. Forecheck, pressure, shots and retrievals … and if you get the odd rush chance, then bury that sucker. Trust it boys. That’s what got you here.
