The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I can see arguments for certain guys in our D to stick around - you're not going to get rid of every single guy - but neither do I think they'll come back with *all* of Rielly, Tanev, McCabe and OEL.

They're not "coming back" with Tanev this year, they're adding him.

I wonder if part of the Knies calculation is that his counting stats will go down if/when McKenna takes his spot on the PP
If not for a lingering injury, Knies would have taken another step last season, and we are on the cusp of his 4th year breakout. 60pts is not his ceiling, and top powerplay or not, he'll get his minutes and points in the top 6.

Outside of trading matthews or acquiring McDavid/Mak etc what would be considered a "holy shit" moment.

Like we just saw Brady demand out to team goonies, the 4th overall + get moved for a 2nd pair defender

Personally any of the high end goalies to TOR would make me say holy shit

We know they are tight with Matthews and building everything around him. We know they're keeping 1st overall.

We've heard nonstop rumors about Knies and Rielly.

We haven't really heard a peep about Nylander from anyone. If they were going to do something earth-shattering, it would involve Willy, but I don't think he'd accommodate them by waiving.

That covers any big outgoing guys.

So that leaves only incoming. And if incoming guys are getting acquired without any big boys leaving town, and we don't have much draft pick capital to drown teams with, then that means taking on big salaries for younger players.

Petterson for instance, with Robertson or Maccelli outgoing. Basically who are the big names making big money who are out of favor with their teams and might be dumped for under market.
