The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

He gets some grace because he actually acquired a top pair d within months of getting the job. Something Tre never even tried to do. He also had what feels like a phenomenal draft and cleaned out a bunch of Tre Trash.

But that July 1st was something I wouldn't even expect out of Tre. Like I have higher standards than that for Brad Treliving

the trading equivalent is that some days sitting on your hands is the best move...

you can be a nerd all you want but without patience you're cooked. it's hard, because most of us are wired to constantly "do something", to convince ourselves there's something there when their isn't.

I have some questions about whether their bottom 6 is actually the same and not slightly worse. They dumped Maccelli and didn't acquire anyone as good as him. But wait I guess McKenna replaces Maccelli in the top 6. So basically all forward improvements, both top and bottom 6, are gonna be due McKenna and Cowan's organic growth.

All that money they had to upgrade it completely squandered. Legendary own goal.

BPs would have traded firsts for those players at the deadline

I think it's just frustrating because there was a lot more potential with all that cap space and to move so quickly on a bunch of players who don't really move the needle at all is a waste.

The only things that keep my sanity intact are McKenna, Raddysh and the fact that most of these contracts are entirely moveable and shortish term.

And there were good trades to be had. It's like getting the itch and deciding to buy shares of a penny stock or something like cgc for a day trade instead of aapl or some shit. They didn't have to aim as low as they did with their signings! And that includes Bobrovksy, who should have been worth 1 year and 3-4 million less. Their goalies were fine as is.

All this talk about more ozone starts for Matthews... Let's be honest, a Paul-Sissons-Blueger would get caved against top lines. When every single forward in your bottom six has feet for hands, how can you expect any sustained possession?

Maccelli and Roslovic are probably similar enough overall.

thank god you guys won two lotteries -- McKenna and I only want to play in Toronto Raddysh. That outweighs whatever noise happened yesterday.

basically. draft results obviously pending, but he's been more lucky than good here early on.

the new forwards are not massive qualitative improvements but they are better skaters and, excepting Roslovic obviously, Chayka believes them to be better defensively than those they are replacing.

I would have tried for Jenner and a credible scoring 3W, not done the Paul trade or signed Bob, and kept our powder dry capwise

again, my only cope is that these are all short term contracts..

I just think the lineup suffers from the same problems as in past years where there is a ton of pressure on the top 6 to produce and if they don't, you're not winning.

Which I suppose could work in the regular season but makes us quite easy to shut down in the playoffs, IMO.

Yeah, seeing what Jenner went for and what we paid for Sissons, I think it would've been much better. And paid a bit more for a better guy than Roslovic.
