2024-25 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

Nice article. He’s saying all the right things. But, That’s a bold statement after a long flight from the motherland.
Demidov’s contract was terminated on Tuesday and he arrived in Canada, via Turkey, yesterday. Can the Canes get him a visa in 48 hours? I don’t think we’ll see him in the building on Sunday.

Ok. So I’m not up on prospects like some of you others than what I read here. How good is this kid supposed to be? We’ve obviously been excited to get him here so he must be pretty good but how good is he? Is he top-tier #1 or 2 or what? Thanks
The KHL is arguably the 2nd best professional league in the world. Nikishin has been one of the top 3 (if not the top) Dman in the KHL for 3 seasons running. He has been SKA St. Petersburg's captain for 3 seasons (Putin's favorite team).

Now of course the NHL is a whole different animal, but the expectation levels are really really high for this kid. Like NHL top pairing high (eventually). A redo of the 2020 draft would have him going in the first half of the first round.

From all I've read and heard over the past 3 seasons, he is:

Big (6'4" 216)
Has a rocket shot
Has offensive flair and seems to understand when to jump into the rush to generate offense
Mean. He likes to run into people with bad intentions and keep people away from the net.

In a perfect world, he slides right into Orlov's spot next season as our 2nd pair LD and joins PP2. We will see how the kid handles the transition to North America....there almost has to be growing pains.

I think by all accounts he is easily a top pairing D on the Canes right now. When Pesce and Skjei were here with Slavin no way would you say that but the Canes D as it stands today can use this kid in spades.

I don’t either but likely in town for the last back to back starting Wednesday

Dont know if we can get past the first round but I’d have Subban’s comments last night running on a loop in the canes locker room.
Most of what he said was blowhard stuff but the part about the Canes goaltending might be spot on, especially of late, the goaltending needs to be better from this team if they want to win a round or two. We all remember how bad the Devils goalie tandem duo was a couple years ago vs the Canes and you know they have improved that this time around with Markstrom.

Subban is a colossal dipstick. How anyone takes that guy seriously is beyond me and the fact that the networks employ the likes of him and Biz is an indictment on just how dumb their whole process has become.

No, for 1 regular season game then to the press box, like they did with Blake, Nadeau and Morrow last year.
Yeah, I'm not so sure. Let's see how it actually goes. Nikishin is a different kettle of fish from a bunch of kids coming straight out of college, and if there's one of the Top 6 that has never seemed to really earn Brindy's trust it's Orlov.

He's listed anywhere between 6-2" and 6-4" depending on who you ask. We shall find out soon enough. Dudes a stud either way!

Remember Kochetkov’s “no touch my guys”? It will take on an entirely different dimension with Nikishin on the ice.

21 should be available, yeah. Not sure it that's his preferred number or just the one he stuck with, but seeing as he was Captain at SKA you'd assume he had his pick of numbers.

Looks like his #21 is available?

I'm trying to temper my excitement and expectations. Last time I was this excited about a young player, was Svech. I'm hoping this one goes in a totally different direction.
I don’t get your utter discontent for Svech. He’s not garbage man. He still scored 150 goals has 352 points and a +42 at age 25. It’s not like he’s captain toast or something. He’s not Alex Ovechkin, but geez

For me personally of late it's more of perplexed and confused thoughts on Svech...all the size and skill in the world it seems but for whatever reason just never can turn that corner into that next level and become that player most of us thought he could be. Some injuries yes, some really bad, undisciplined, selfish penalty habits, and some really streaky cold spells that somewhat has him as an afterthought this year on a team where he should be one of the top 2 or 3 guys leading this org. I have watched the after practice work he puts in, the team still seems to consider him a cornerstone piece but for whatever reason that next level Svech just has not come to be. I agree he is not Captain Toast but I think we can all agree he needs to do more at a consistent level more often.

Svech seems to become of those guys with million dollar talent, and a Dollar General brain. All of those accolades and points came early. He's been a shell of that player over the last couple seasons. You don't notice when he's not playing. Top line money for a 3rd line grinder. You hate to see your 2nd overall draft pick end up in the bottom 6, when you've had glimpses of way more talent than that.

No, I get that. He has underperformed but some of the things posted about him are extremely over the top. But whatever, just one man’s opinion
