The Canes marketing gang already working on those BOOM shirts as we speak!
I cannot imagine that negotiations with Nikishin to be a problem if SKA let's him go as planned. What really is left for him in the KHL at this point...This story is primarily about Habs prospect Ivan Demidov but there is information on Nikishin too. Negotiations apparently haven’t started and the visa situation is unclear.

“Most Likely VHL or MHL”: Demidov’s Camp Aims for NHL, But SKA’s Trophy Push May Delay Move to Canadiens
SKA blocks Demidov's NHL jump: “Chances are slim” his deal gets terminated. Trophy focus now shifts to MHL and VHL.rg.org
As I understand it, until the KHL's calendar season is over (June 30 in the NHL, not sure in the KHL), if Nikishin is going to sign with anybody else before that time then the league needs to approve it. And that probably has to happen first before Carolina can do anything than have informal talks with his agent. And the visa issue is very real. If it's going to take a week or two to get the visa approved then that's one thing. If it's longer (or more likely, if it's unclear), then you can't really expect just to plug the guy into the playoffs cycle midstream. That's just unrealistic. To quote a former team…
Whatever it takes
I don’t think Badinka has arrived yet, but he’s under contract, so it’s just a matter of time. I don’t see why Morrow would go back to Chicago unless the Canes are eliminated before the Wolves. So Badinka and Nystrom both join the Wolves blueline. Sounds like Morrow is probably just sticking around in Raleigh at this point, right?
Which is the opposite of what we've been hearing. Supposedly, they wanted Demidov to go to the MHL or VHL, wherever the other SKA teams were still playing. Who knows. At this point, if he comes, he comes, as long as he’s here for training camp.Sounds like SKA has granted Ivan Demidov his release to join Montreal ASAP. Still no word on Nikishin but several of the media that follow the KHL were surprised the kid Demidov was released without much delay.
There's still time. The Canes don't play their last game until 4/17 and the NHL season isn't over until the following day. So there's still more than a week for this to come together ... if indeed it's coming together this season.Which is the opposite of what we've been hearing. But…one other thing I saw, and as with all of this, take it with a salt mine worth of salt, is that the Canes were already negotiating his 2nd contract. Which they can’t do until he’a in the last year of his existing contract. But if he isn’t released before the Canes are finished, he’ll still have 2 years left.
