I guess I have to. But I don't think it's just his character or personality. There's more at play.

Leaving his hometown team. Leaving his best buddy Matty. Leaving his home with his young family to go live in Vegas? It's stunning. Something insane must have happened. Maybe something major between him and Matty, something in the room where he just couldn't come back anymore. Entirely shocking.

Holy shit… i literally just texted this sentiment to a friend of mine…

Auston’s “too many passengers” comment this year and Willie’s freak out on the bench during playoffs last year was towards marner?

Maybe, no, not maybe.. probably marner was an entitled locker room cancer?

I'm sure Kampf is gone. Probably a deal already in place. Berube treated him like a leper in the playoffs. He's not going to come back.

Krok the same thing, but only because we just don't need him and can replace him for half the hit.

This has to be the worst UFA day ever. There's nobody. Boeser and Ehlers? Not even worth watching. Maybe he's going to look to swipe a guy that a team can't afford anymore. The Robertson one is intriguing. Maybe we could be the beneficiaries of a nice rip where we deal Carlo, Domi, Danford type package for him. And then keep the bros together.

It adds up, but then why were they always hanging out with him? If he was so hated, you'd think he'd be off on his own.

now they're a smart org, but they haven't exactly been brimming with drafted talent lately either. they did have one guy pop at age 24 this year in Dorofyev but i'm not sure anyone sees him as a legit core guy going forward.

so there's at least a decent chance that Marner is walking into a bad situation where they're gonna need him to be one of the key clutch playoff leaders, while he's probably thinking he's in line for a cushy gig.

I think you're going to find better value taking on a few Macelli's than you are going after Granlund's in UFA.

The good news is that we don't really "need" anything that's on the free agent market.

Just a rough outline based on who is in the org right now:

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Macelli-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Roy-McMann
Lorentz-Laughton-Jarnkrok

McCabe-Tanen
Mo-Carlo
Benoit-OEL

There's always places you can improve of course. Mo-Carlo could be improved on. We could use an improvement on the wing, Tavares-Roy probably aren't championship 2-3 centre group. But none of it is bad and necessitate doing something stupid in free agency.

If more Macelli's are out there at whatever position though, sure, take a swing.
