2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Friedman saying leafs still in on Roslovic. And that he’s likely waiting for leafs to make a move to open a roster spot.

Could he be a good fit on one of the top 2 lines? I think I like Robertson better but that seems unlikely for some dumb reason.

I don’t believe it. He’s just including the Leafs for the clicks.

“He’s waiting for the Leafs to make a move” has been their line on Roslovic since July 2nd. Even though the Leafs could clear the space for him in 10 seconds if they were so inclined.

I kinda buy it, because it feels like he'd have signed somewhere by now, and has a deal in principle with a team that is in the process of making moves, and that certainly feels like the Leafs. I think Robertson and McMann may be out there as part of a deal involving Carlo/OEL, and either in that move or in a separate deal, Kampf/Krok out.

They rank 15th this year. 8th last year.

Like that Carlos contract is still bad after retention. Though he fucked up Laughton.

yeah Laughton's $1.5 hit means he's $0.8m positive value, not -$0.7m negative. That $1.5m swing probably gets them into the B+ tier by itself.

And hopefully the Kampf contract is ditched completely.

but eagerly taking on that Joshua contract in the meantime is just depressing.

Yeah, you're right. For some reason, I can never keep Carlo's numbers straight. Maybe because I think he's temporary.

Mediocre management = mediocre team = mediocre contracts.

Firing Dubas but keeping Keefe, then firing Keefe but keeping Shanny and Tre, then firing Shanny but keeping Tre and Berube after they probably should have cleaned house 2 years before is just a depressing waste of 5 years of the prime core 4 that they relied way too much on.

Anything that rates Willy’s contract as a disaster loses whatever credibility it otherwise might have. He was second in goals last year and consistently awesome every year.

It's largely based on a projection of Willy in the future. It's grading the entire contract, not just this year's contribution to it.

Yup. I fucking hate this tepid nonsense that's so common in the NHL. Top hockey exec gets hired and keeps everyone in place to "evaluate". Motherfucker, we know that you're just playing the game to extend your own employment clock. GM's tend to get 2, or maybe 3 coaching changes and don't want to start with "their" guy because if that guy flops it's on them. So you get a free 1-1.5 years using the last GM's guy as a human shield if shit is going poorly. It's such a cowards move. If you are actually bringing new ideas on how rosters should be constructed and hockey should be played to a new organization, you should want coaches that aligns with that vision.
