And as for expansion, there’s been a slow swell for another team in each division, especially after how well the Utah move went. Atlanta (Gwinnett) and Texas … probably Houston … seem to be in play. This is the first I’ve heard of Austin being involved. And before you downplay Atlanta, you all know by now that the strength of the owner is more important than the market itself so long as the market is viable. Atlanta is viable but never had credible ownership before.
The term sheet for a team in Texas is $3.5 billion with includes the expansion fee and cost of a new arena. if it’s Houston, that will be a standalone building for the new team, they won’t be playing in the Toyota Center which is owned by Harris County Houston Sports Authority but operated by the Houston Rockets. The arena was home to the AHL Houston Aeros from 2003-13, when they relocated to Iowa.Atlanta has been mentioned for years and they apparently have a robust group heading it up.....and they wont make the mistake of going to downtown ATL again and will likely end up in Gwinnett (as you mentioned) or even Cobb County with the Braves
